Dogwatch has run a Community Outreach Programme for a number of years now, offering practical support to local dog owners who are struggling. What do we offer?
🐶 Desexing vouchers — because desexing prevents unplanned litters and reduces the burden on council pounds and shelters
🥫 Dog food assistance — up to four parcels per year, per person
🧸 Essential pet items — like leads, collars, bowls, bedding and coats
💉 Free vaccination drives — now added in response to the recent parvovirus outbreak in Christchurch
In the past year alone, we’ve issued 130 desexing vouchers — potentially preventing 400–650 unwanted puppies from being born. One unplanned litter can result in 6–10 puppies, so the impact of proactive desexing is huge.
We’ve launched our vaccination events after heartbreakingly seeing this virus affect dogs close to us. Parvo is preventable — and vaccination is the best protection. Just like desexing, it's a simple action that makes a big difference to your dog’s health and wellbeing.
We know times are tough, and we want to do all we can to help keep dogs with the families who love them.
📍Support is available for dog owners in Canterbury.
