UPDATE: After doing some diagnostics on this sweet soul. Unfortunately we found there was nothing we could do to save him. We gave him a good last meal and a comfy warm bed and we had to let him go.
RIP sweet boy 💔

This sweet, old, very sick stray was bought into us today. No microchip. Male neutered. Missing its right eye.
Very friendly and very hungry.
Found on Ottawa rd, Wainoni.

And thats a wrap!

197 dogs vaccinated in 5hrs this afternoon!
🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶💉

Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust did an amazing job fully organising and running these vaccination events this week. Making it such a breeze for us, Kowhai Vet and the Christchurch City Council getting as many dogs vaccinated against Parvo and microchipped as quickly as possible.

Thanks for including us in this event Dogwatch, it was a great experience we all enjoyed!
Also thanks to everyone who attended today to get their dogs vaccinated. ☺️

Dogwatch has run a Community Outreach Programme for a number of years now, offering practical support to local dog owners who are struggling. What do we offer?

🐶 Desexing vouchers — because desexing prevents unplanned litters and reduces the burden on council pounds and shelters
🥫 Dog food assistance — up to four parcels per year, per person
🧸 Essential pet items — like leads, collars, bowls, bedding and coats
💉 Free vaccination drives — now added in response to the recent parvovirus outbreak in Christchurch

In the past year alone, we’ve issued 130 desexing vouchers — potentially preventing 400–650 unwanted puppies from being born. One unplanned litter can result in 6–10 puppies, so the impact of proactive desexing is huge.

We’ve launched our vaccination events after heartbreakingly seeing this virus affect dogs close to us. Parvo is preventable — and vaccination is the best protection. Just like desexing, it's a simple action that makes a big difference to your dog’s health and wellbeing.

We know times are tough, and we want to do all we can to help keep dogs with the families who love them.

📍Support is available for dog owners in Canterbury.

🫣 Surgically extracted bladder stones! 😲

We just wanted to share these impressive bladder stones we removed this week from a very sweet, small canine!

If you notice symptoms like:
- Straining/difficulty urinating (can easily be mistaken for constipation)
- Blood tinged urine
- Increased frequency in urinating
- Licking themselves
- Urinating in unusual places

This could be a sign of more than just a nasty UTI!

If your dog OR cat show any of these symptoms, please get in touch.

Healthy bladder = Happy healthy pe**ee time for your furry friends! 🐶🐱

Woof!

Big thank you again to the kind people who bought her in to our clinic last year for treatment, we are lucky she entered our lives, both Boots and her new family are very grateful!

🚨PARVOVIRUS!!!🚨

To everyones horror we are again dealing with a new surge of Canine Parvovirus in Christchurch, and our area is also affected. As a responsible dog owner, it's essential to ensure your pet is protected against this highly contagious and life-threatening disease.

Parvovirus affects dogs of all ages, but puppies under 6 months are most susceptible. However 3 of the dogs seen in our clinic in the last week have been 9 months old and one was 13 years old.
The virus is shed in the faeces of infected dogs and can survive in the environment for extended periods long after the infected dog is no longer there.

Symptoms of Parvovirus include:
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Fever
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
Sadly not all dogs survive this awful disease 😢

Check your dogs vaccination books or give us a call if you need us to check their vaccine status.

Stay safe Paw-some pals!
