Shilstone Rocks Dartmoor Pony Stud - New Zealand

Shilstone Rocks Dartmoor Pony Stud - New Zealand The NZ extension of the UK Shilstone Rocks Dartmoor Pony Stud. The Dartmoor is classified as an Endangered Rare Breed.

Est. 1959 by Elizabeth Newbolt-Young, her daughters Claire McCormick and Tracey Elliot-Reep are one of 3 Dartmoor pony breeders in NZ. The breed standard of the Dartmoor pony describes them as no more than 12.2 hh (175cm) high and are whole colors (but a small amount of white as a star or a white sock is perfectly acceptable), with an untrimmed full mane and tail. They are hardy ponies having adap

ted to the harsh moorland environment in the South-West of England. They are a popular breed in the UK and have been exported all around the world. They are well known for their quiet good-natured temperament and versatility, used by both children and small adults for competition or pleasure as a riding pony or for driving, hunting, jumping and showing. Despite their popularity, the Dartmoor Pony is classified as an Endangered Rare Breed

Elizabeth Newbolt-Young is the founder of the Shilstone Rocks Stud in Dartmoor, UK. Her daughters Tracey Elliot-Reep and Claire McCormick have long shared a dream of importing Dartmoor Ponies to NZ. That dream was realized in 2013 when Tracey imported two mares Shilstone Rocks Mountain Bay and Shilstone Rocks Sugar Snap, both in foal to Shilstone Rocks Northcountryman. They produced two lovely foals: a pretty filly, Snow Berry and a handsome c**t, Mountain Man. Our stud is steadily growing using the stallion Dingmac Eagle Rock, kindly lent by Holly Norman of Silverthorne Stud and stallion Dingmac Archie kindly lent by Rebbecca Pocock of Dingmac Stud.
