Gershwin offspring number three to feature this week is Janette Sigvertsens George aka Vollrath Goldfinch.
He is a three quarter relation to Giulietta out of the Lion King mare Vollrath Lovestory.
After winning all the classes he was entered in Goldfinch won the Supreme Champion and Best Three Year Old Of Show at the Central Districts young stock inhand show.
Janette writes:
“He got
1st best presented
And in the Horses to mature over 148cm I took him in the riding horse class and he got 1st and then went up against the saddle hunter and the show hack and got champion.
And he got 1st for the warm blood class and then got champion over the other hacks and then Supreme Champion over the pony.
He also got best 3 yrold in show”
Congratulations to this great combination who are currently commencing their ridden partnership.

And just like that Giulietta has completed her first dressage test, Prelim 1 D, at our informal ‘Have-a-go-day’ at Manfeild.
The photos show how very proud I am of my ‘little’ girl who went through the test like a pro after being allowed to familiarise within the arena for ten minutes, scoring 73%.
Giulietta is a Vollrath horse through and through having been on-bred from the foundation TB mare Moonshadow via Genius, Dynamit, Worldwide and now Gershwin.
Thank you thank you thank you to my wonderful dressage group DCD and all the busy bees making a day like this possible.
Also thanks to Miranda Sage for taking these lovely photos.
Thank you to the organisers, managers, dogsbodies at large and last not least the judges Maddie and Vaughn who sacrificed their Sunday to give starting combinations a leg-up.

And today Galahad arrived safely at his new home in Canberra!
This was a very long journey for such a young horse and he took it all in his stride.
In fact, he immediately took an apple from Ninya just off the truck and then was only seen with his head down after leading nicely into his new paddock.
Once he has passed all the health checks he will be joining the herd of horses at the property in a vast paddock by New Zealand standards.
Needless to say Ninya Maubach loves him already and she is thrilled with her new purchase.
Congratulations Ninya for securing this special boy and flying him all the way out to Oz!
We wish you the best of partnerships and lots of wonderful hours spent together, both in the saddle and just in each other's company.

Yesterday I took the beautiful two year old Galahad to the Majestic depot in Bulls to start his journey to Australia.
Galahad was a Premium Gold foal and is developing into a formidable riding horse.
He is of medium frame and bone and will grow to at least 16.3 hands.
With three above average paces, in particular a very balanced, uphill canter, this young athlete will be suitable for more than just dressage.
In preparation to this taxing journey Galahad had several outings to the beach and took everything in his stride.
In fact he was the easiest horse ever to teach to load as he simply followed the feed bucket up the ramp!
Right now he is on his way to Auckland and scheduled to fly out to Oz on Sunday morning.

Now to some good news from HOY:
Janette Sigvertsen and her lovely homebred mare Vollrath London by Lessing out of Vollrath Wildflower were successful in the Level 3 Dressage competition.

Despite peaking in the non-title classes and placing 5 and 6 respectively in the Title classes they came away with lots of ribbons and a big grin on Janette’s face.

Sadly I had to withdraw Vollrath Gershwin from HOY as he developed a respiratory infection typical for this time of year.

We were entered in the Small Tour and Gershwin was in the form of his life after a year of lessons with Vanessa Way and recently being fine-tuned by visiting FEI Vet and Osteopath par excellence Dr. Hans-Gert Grommes.

I wish my peers in the Small Tour good luck and hope you can give it your all when putting your best foot forward.

We are so happy to have our gorgeous boy home after a forced prolonged stint at EVRC to treat a lingering infection.

It was also a very successful weekend for Natasha Connolly at the Murchison A&P Show.
She and Vollrath Lauretta (Lessing/Dynacast) won the wide ribbon in the Saddle Hunter Class (they are used to it) as well as taking away the title and beautiful dress rug for Supreme Horse of the show and Dillon aka Vollrath Gunsmoke had his first official outing for a second and third place in the Novice and Paced and Mannered classes.
Congratulations Natasha, you are doing us proud.
Keep up the good work and your show outfit for Dillon looks amazing!

The weekend was filled with horse competitions all over New Zealand.
In Masterton at the A&P Showing Championships Janette Sigvertsen and Vollrath Goldfinch (Gershwin/Lovestory) were incredibly successful:
Not only did they win the Champion Young Stock Led Sporthorse class but also won against the Adult Horse to win Supreme Champion Led Sporthorse.
To top it all off he was crowned SUPREME EXHIBIT IN SHOW!
Janette is over the moon with her George and we at Vollrath couldn’t be any happier.

Dr Hans Grommes has arrived on our shores and is already looking like a Kiwi after a visit to the local Farm store!
He is accompanied by his good friend Franz, and I’m having a rare visitor -also from Germany, Marja-Liisa, who is now working for the Holsteiner Verband and was last here in NZ thirteen years ago.
Today Hans is treating my horses, starting with Gershwin.

More good news: the black Gershwin c**t VHS Giacomo - Jack to his friends - received a Silver Award.
The young c**t was recovering from an infection when presented to the Hanoverian classifier Bo Eitenmueller and consequently missed out on a Gold Award by a whisker.
Thank you very much to Janette Sigvertsen who presented mare and foal expertly at EVRC.
We are looking forward to bringing the pair home once Jack is in the clear.
Meanwhile we are chuffed with the results!

The much anticipated Hanoverian Foal Classification took place today.
We welcomed Bo Eitenmueller from Germany and NZ Hanoverian Society ambassadors Robin Potter, Angela Smith, Renai Hart and Bridget Sutton to judge our filly foal VHS Moana (Morricone/Remi Love Song).
Moana received very good scores from the judges with any overall mark of 8.125 earning her a coveted Gold Award.
Thank you to the Hanoverian Society for organising this annual event and flying out to NZ knowledgeable judges to advised and educate members on all things Hanoverian.

We went to visit the new Gershling and proud mum L'Amour at EVRC on Wednesday.
The c**t is pretty perfect and both he and L'Amour are still recovering from the rigours of the birth.
We will pick them up next week and take them home so Moana will finally have a friend to play with.
The other two Gershlings bred by Janette Sigvertsen were also at EVRC.
They are both doing well and it was a pleasure to meet these priceless creations.
All foals will be presented to the Hanoverian classifiers on January 30 and we are all looking forward to the day in anticipation.
Michael took some photos on Wednesday that capture the peaceful atmosphere.

AND we have another super foal by Gershwin out of L’Amour!
A textbook delivery as L’Amour was counted out for the 20th and she did the deed under the watchful eye of Lucy Russell EVRC.
Thank you Lucy for your expert care as always and I’m looking forward to meeting the young man tomorrow!
