📍 INVERCARGILL CLINIC

Unfortunately, we had a deceased cat brought into our Invercargill clinic on Findlay Road today after being found at the Queens Drive/Herbert Street roundabout.

The cat is a large, short-haired tabby male, with a white tummy and socks. Not desexed and no microchip.

Let's talk about pet dental health!

Are you getting a nasty surprise when your pet wakes you up in the morning? If your cat or dog has bad breath, don’t just recoil – it could be a sign of dental disease. In fact, up to 70% of cats and 80% of dogs over two are affected!

Dental disease can be a hidden cause of pain and illness in pets and it’s also an expensive disease to remedy, so prevention is much better than cure. There are many ways you can help with this, including:

🦷 Having a regular routine of dental hygiene
🦷 Brushing teeth with a pet-safe toothpaste
🦷 Monitoring for signs of dental issues
🦷 Using appropriate chew toys or dental treats
🦷 Feeding a dental diet
🦷 Regular dental checkups

Check out this brave patient rocking an 'Optivizor' after eye surgery 👀🐶

He had surgery on his right eyelid to correct 'Cherry Eye', a condition where the third eyelid gland protrudes from its pocket. With a traditional e-collar (cone), he was still able to rub his eye, which risked the surgery failing. But this Optivizor worked a treat and he was unable to disturb the area and the delicate work our team had done.

Best of all, he seemed very comfortable in it 😎

🦆 Duck shooting season starts this coming weekend! Have fun, stay safe, and take care of your four-legged best mate too. Here's a few tips from us:

👀 Be aware of where dogs are when shooting or moving vehicles. It's best to secure any dogs when they're not actively working or have them under good control.

🐕 Keep dogs warm, well fed and watered while away hunting. We have dog coats, pet beds and a range of energy-supporting foods available in our clinics.

🐑 If you're heading out on a sheep farm, it's important to ensure your dog has recently been wormed against sheep measles to help control the spread of this disease. Pick up some worming tablets from us and dose them at least 48 hours before going on-farm.

💦 Watch out for swimmer's tail – signs include a limp, drooping tail and stiffness or reluctance to move. Rest your dog and contact your vet if signs persist.

This year The VetSouth Gorge Adventure Race raised more than $15,000 for local community groups 😮🎉

The majority of funds will go towards a new multi-use turf at Central Southland College, with contributions also going to the Browns Fire Brigade, the Limehills Netball Club and Central Southland Junior Hockey.

What a fantastic outcome! We are so proud to support this epic event.

Unfortunately, we had a deceased cat brought into our Invercargill clinic on Findlay Road yesterday after being found by the bridge near the corner of Roslyn Road and Mill Road North (presumed hit by a car).

The cat is a young tabby male, likely less than six months old. Not desexed and no microchip.
