It's been a big few weeks for our little lady Charlotte P aka Lottie. She was weaned, enjoyed a trip to the beach with her little friend Sting and Aaron and I, and competed at the showcase today in Gore, her first "solo flight".
Nothing is too big an ask for this wee girl, as long as you ask nicely ;) (one is the daughter of a diva afterall).
I was so proud of her being sashed Reserve Champion A Filly foal today under judge Gail Iskra. She looked smashing, she showed, she chilled at the float, she stole watermelon from the picnic basket and was just generally a little delight.
A very special little girl with a very exciting future.
Well done to everyone braving that icy weather today!

I've been remiss at keeping our horse pages updated! Today saw us take Sweetie, Lottie (her filly foal) and Clem to Taeiri A&P show. The girls, as always, were enthralled with all the glitz and glam and attention. Sweetie has missed the lime light, and was overjoyed to be back out there with her best friend Aaron. Little Lottie was a consummate professional given she's not long worn a halter for the first time... Clem thought the picnic lunch was AMAZING.
Some great results - notable were Champion Cat A Youngstock for our baby girl Lottie, Champ Cat B and overall Supreme Exhibit for Sweetie and a credible 2nd for Clem in the hunter ring.
We met our lovely friends, Jana, Michael and their gorgeous girls Edelle and Bell there and they showed Sweetie and Lottie in the colour classes, winning both the A and B broken colour classes. (And both piloted Clem round the hunter course).... not to bad for 2 wee girls who've never shown before!

Percy and his awesome little human were also competing- so proud of this young lady. Grace he looked amazing! Grace's little performance mare was overall Supreme performance- no mean feat with some seasoned campaigners out today.

Another highlight was the look a delight on the lovely Debbie's face at her well earned Supreme A.

As always, ribbons last but a moment, memories forever! Lovely day thanks everyone.

A few snaps - Hopefully I'll get a few more glamour shots to follow.

Winter is slowly letting go down here in South Otago, and with the longer days we are managing to squeeze in some family time.... Tilly and little Lottie are still absolutely besotted with one another.... I am watching this little friendship with a slightly bemused expression because both little girls are fairly opinionated so I'm not entirely convinced it's a match made in heaven, but my goodness they are adorable!
Looking forward to and positive scans for our visiting mares soon, then we can get our own girls served..... busy busy time for our little farm

It's that awkward time of year, it's not quite full prep time yet but the schedules are coming out, the enquiries are for sale horses are increasing... and just in general we all seem to be coming out of hibernation.
It's the PERFECT time of year for building on basic skills you started teaching last year's foals, preparing them for life in the big wide world.
Along with the basics I am a huge fan of helping my horses be easy to clip - not just for showing reasons, we routinely belly clip our broodmares, it's sometimes essential for wound care etc etc.
Of course our show horses get clipped as part of their grooming routine too, I try very hard to introduce Clippers without sedation or heavy restraint and we work towards it being nothing more exciting than basic grooming.
Here's a short clip of Theos second face clip - it's far from a perfect clip, it doesn't need to be, it's a training clip. Theo is a sensitive little soul, he finds the noise of the clippers really worrying but we just take our time and this is where we end up.
He's still very much got thinking ears, and he's not totally convinced he loves it but I'm chuffed.
What's one of your essential skills you like to teach your young ones?

She was such a beautiful, cheeky, nosy little baby..... She's still just as cheeky and just as nosy, and quite an extraordinary mare... at 312 days today carrying a very precious Los Arboles Idol's Rave Review foal, the countdown is about to begin.
In true Sweetie style she tells us in no uncertain terms that she deserves cuddles, carrots and not to skimp on the molasses with her tea. She's not entirely convinced broodmaring is her "thing" and was delighted to be brought in and tidied up this afternoon. Funny funny girl! Enjoy these last few weeks Sweets, they're terrors once they arrive ;)
