Rain or shine, busy crowds or unexpected furry friends – Jaspa is continuing to build his skills in all sorts of everyday environments! 🐾

From training in the rain and patiently waiting in busy places with people moving all around him, to remaining settled around a curious cat, every experience is an opportunity to practise, learn and grow.

Jaspa's training continues as he puts his skills into practice in the real world. These everyday experiences help strengthen his confidence, focus and ability to navigate different situations, so he can continue doing the important work he was trained for. 💚

💚 A day of pickleball, community spirit and a very special tribute to Sophie

A huge thank you to Sian, who recently organised a one-day pickleball tournament in memory of her much-loved dog, Sophie, raising an incredible $1,000 for Mobility Dogs!

Sophie (pictured in photo 4) was part of the Mobility Dogs puppy programme before finding her true calling in scent work. Clever, energetic and full of zest for life, she became a much-loved member of Sian’s family and a source of enormous comfort and support through some challenging family health issues. Although she didn't go on to become a Mobility Dog, she made a lasting difference to the people around her. She is dearly missed.

It’s incredibly special to see Sophie’s legacy continue through this wonderful event, bringing people together to support the work of Mobility Dogs and the life-changing difference our dogs make.

The tournament brought together eight teams, with players from the Wednesday Warkworth Drills Group, The Y North Shore and Matakana Pickleball. Each team represented a dog from our programme, and congratulations to Team Chai, who took home the win! 🏆

A special thank you also goes to Graze NZ for generously sponsoring the tournament with delicious snacks and team prizes.

We are so grateful to Sian and everyone who took part or contributed. Your generosity will go a long way towards helping us continue training dogs who provide practical support, companionship and security to people living with disabilities, as well as those who benefit from our therapy and companion dogs.

Thank you for honouring Sophie in such a meaningful way. Her legacy is helping make a difference for other dogs and the people whose lives they will touch. 💚🐾

Jacob and Harley have been partnered since 1 November 2019 and are still going strong, almost seven years later!

Harley is now 10 years old and starting to slow down a little, but he's still as keen as ever to help Jacob in any way he can. He even accompanies Jacob to his DJ gigs!

The two are very well known around town, with Harley becoming somewhat of a local celebrity - as often happens in small towns.

Meet Marley, a handsome black Labrador with a big personality and lots of love to give! Born in September 2025, he’s friendly, intelligent and loves being part of the action, whether that’s heading out on an adventure or relaxing at home beside his favourite humans.

🎾 A few things to love about him:
🐾 He’s people-oriented and loves spending time with his humans.
🐾 He loves playing fetch and retrieving toys, often bringing them back to show you.
🐾 He knows his basic commands, is food-motivated and enjoys learning.
🐾 He walks nicely on the lead and is generally settled and relaxed at home.

As a young, energetic dog, he’s looking for a home that can offer him exercise, structure and consistent guidance. He can be quite vocal, and busy, crowded environments can sometimes be overwhelming for him. He can also get a little carried away when playing with other dogs, so thoughtful introductions, clear boundaries and ongoing guidance will help him thrive.

🏡 Could he be the right fit for you?
We’re looking for someone with experience handling large-breed dogs who can provide an active lifestyle, a calm and structured home environment, and plenty of opportunities to keep learning. He could live with another dog following careful introductions, and a home with older children (teenagers and above) would be best. A home without cats or young children is preferred.
With the right match, he has the potential to become a wonderful companion for someone ready to embrace life with a young Labrador.

Every life-changing journey starts with a little love, patience and a whole lot of puppy cuddles. 🐾💚

Our puppies have a big future ahead of them, and with the support of our amazing puppy raisers, volunteers and supporters, they’re taking their first steps towards changing lives.

Tahi is loving his role as a Therapy Dog and is settling beautifully into life in the clinic. When there are no clients to meet, you’ll usually find him having a well-earned nap — but when clients arrive, he’s more than happy to soak up all the attention!

For clients receiving difficult news, Tahi’s calm, comforting presence can make a real difference. Sometimes, having a gentle friend by your side can bring a little comfort when it’s needed most.

We’re so proud of Tahi and the difference he’s making for the people he meets.

Spencer has been exploring Auckland’s new rail network with his puppy raiser, Ian, and he’s taking it all in his stride!

Experiences like these are an important part of puppy raising, helping our dogs build confidence, become comfortable in new environments, and learn to navigate the world around them.

With trains, unfamiliar sounds and busy platforms, there’s plenty to take in — but Spencer wasn’t fazed at all! He coped brilliantly with the whole experience. What a good boy! 💚

Quinn’s next chapter begins!

Last week, Quinn officially began his next chapter as a Therapy Dog, joining a psychologist and her whānau in Wellington. He’ll be working alongside her as part of a Youth Mental Health Team, and it’s safe to say he’s already making a wonderful impression!

Quinn was welcomed with his very own sign on his first day and has been busy meeting his new colleagues. But it’s the quieter moments that show just how special a Therapy Dog can be. One patient shared this beautiful reflection about Quinn:

“Dogs are so alert to danger, so the fact he’s so relaxed makes me feel like I’m safe here.”

Sometimes, a calm presence and a little unconditional love can make all the difference. We’re so proud to see Quinn beginning a role where he can help people feel safe, supported and more at ease.

A huge thank you to everyone who has played a part in raising, caring for and supporting Quinn throughout his journey. Every outing, training session, sleepover and new experience has helped prepare him for this important role.

And while he’s busy making a difference to others, Quinn still enjoys the occasional work-from-home day, complete with a cosy blanket and a well-earned nap! 🐶💤

We can’t wait to see the difference Quinn makes in the lives of the young people he meets.

A beautiful day at the Blessing of the Animals

On Sunday, we had the privilege of joining St Matthew-in-the-City for their beautiful Blessing of the Animals service — a wonderful celebration of the special place our beloved animals hold in our lives.

We are very grateful to St Matthew-in-the-City for choosing to fundraise for Mobility Dogs, welcoming us so warmly, and giving us the opportunity to share a little about the work we do and the difference our dogs make in the lives of people living with disabilities and in our communities.

Representing Mobility Dogs on the day were Spencer and Caesar, alongside their wonderful puppy raisers, Ian (who also works at St Matthew's) and Adriana.
Adriana read a beautiful poem with Caesar patiently by her side, while Ian shared a wonderful story about one of his previous puppies, Eddie. It was so special to hear about Eddie's journey and the lasting connections our dogs can make along the way.

And, of course, Spencer and Caesar both waited very patiently for their turn to be blessed by Reverend Richard Bonifant.

We feel incredibly privileged to be part of such a special day and to have the opportunity to share the work of Mobility Dogs with a community that so clearly understands the love, companionship and joy that animals bring to our lives.

Thank you, St Matthew-in-the-City, for your support of Mobility Dogs and for celebrating all creatures, great and small.
