The Groom Most Double-Coated Dog Owners Skip… Then Regret All Winter

# # # The Pre-Winter Coat Reset (For Double-Coated Dogs)

If you’ve ever felt like your dog is *exploding hair everywhere* as the weather cools down—you’re not imagining it.

Double-coated breeds don’t just “shed”…
They **blow their coat**.

And if that dead undercoat isn’t properly removed before winter:

* It gets trapped
* It causes overheating (even in colder months)
* It leads to matting, odour, and skin issues
* And your home ends up covered in fur—constantly

---

# # # Why a Standard Groom Isn’t Enough

Most basic grooms only scratch the surface.

They might make your dog *look* cleaner…
But they don’t properly remove the compacted undercoat that’s causing the problem.

That’s why the shedding comes back almost immediately.

---

# # # What Makes This Different

This isn’t just a wash and brush.

The **Pre-Winter Coat Reset** is a structured, multi-step process designed specifically for double-coated breeds to:

✔ Deep cleanse the coat and remove trapped oils
✔ Open the coat so dead undercoat can release properly
✔ Add professional-grade conditioning for maximum “slip”
✔ Use high-velocity drying to safely blow out loose coat

This is where the real transformation happens.

---

# # # The Result

After a proper Coat Reset, you’ll notice:

* **Up to 80–90% less shedding at home**
* A coat that feels lighter, cleaner, and healthier
* Faster drying after walks and baths
* Less odour and better skin condition
* A visibly fuller, more even coat (without bulk)

---

# # # Who This Is For

This service is ideal for:

* Huskies
* German Shepherds
* Golden Retrievers
* Japanese Spitz
* Any heavy or double-coated breed

---

# # # When to Book

Right **before winter** is the most important time.

This is when your dog is transitioning coats—
and if you miss this window, that dead coat gets trapped for months.

---

# # # Bottom Line

If you’re tired of:

* Hair all over your house
* Constant brushing that doesn’t seem to work
* A coat that never feels truly clean

This is the reset your dog actually needs.

---

**Limited spots available during peak shedding season.**
Book now to get ahead of the coat blow—before it takes over your home.

Husky, Shepherd, Collie, Retriever, Spitz Owners: This Is the Groom They Actually Need

Specialist in Double Coat Dog Grooming.

Our 5 Step System for Double-Coated Dogs

As a Double Coat specialist, we use a 5-step process that removes 80 to 90% of the dead coat while resetting the coat to function as it was designed.

Brushing your dog's dry coat isn't the most effective way to remove dead coat. If you are using certain deshedding tools, as many people do, you may be doing more harm than good. These tools may damage the coat and hair follicles, forcing the coat into recovery mode. You may see an initial reduction in shedding, but your dog starts producing more coat and increases shedding.

What is the 5 Step Process?

1. Pre-blow out with the high velocity dryer and brush over to remove loose coat and any matting.

2. The Bathing process - 3 Parts

First, a shampoo with a deep-cleansing, odor-neutralizing formula to remove dirt, dander, and dead skin cells.

Rinse and apply another cleanse with a gentle moisturizing shampoo to help with skin and coat health, and give your dog a pleasant smell.

Thirdly, apply a Rich Creme conditioner to nourish the coat and add slip to enable the dead coat to slide out. We then brush and comb your dog with the conditioner still in for 10 minutes or more. This helps remove as much of the unwanted coat as possible. This is where the magic happens.

3. Drying. After the bath, we remove the excess water from the coat with a towel dry. Then they are fully dried with the high velocity dryer, which blows out even more unwanted coat.

4. Final brush and comb out. This involves line brushing the entire dog with a slicker brush and a fine-tooth steel comb from head to tail.

5. The finishing touches. This includes nail clipping and ear cleaning, underpaws clipped, sanitary clip and scissor tidy the feet and feathering.

It is not possible to stop shedding completely. However, this process removes 80 to 90% and significantly reduces shedding for longer, and resets the coat to function better in both winter and summer.

If Your Dog Has a Double Coat, Read This Before Winter

5 REASONS YOUR DOUBLE COATED DOG NEEDS DESHEDDING BEFORE WINTER BEGINS.

Deshedding a double-coated dog before winter sounds counterintuitive (“don’t they need that coat?”), but done properly, it actually helps their coat work the way it’s supposed to.

Here’s why it matters:

1. Keeps the coat insulating properly

Double-coated breeds rely on a balance between the soft undercoat and the outer guard hairs. When dead undercoat builds up, it traps air unevenly and blocks proper insulation.
A proper deshed removes loose, dead hair so the coat can regulate temperature efficiently—keeping your dog warm and dry.

2. Prevents matting (which reduces warmth)

Packed, shedding undercoat can turn into dense mats, especially with moisture from rain or damp conditions.
Matted fur:

Holds cold moisture against the skin
Reduces airflow
Actually makes your dog colder, not warmer.

3. Helps the skin stay healthy through winter

A clogged coat can trap:

Dirt
Dander
Moisture

That creates the perfect environment for irritation, hot spots, or infections—more common in winter when coats stay damp longer.

4. Reduces excessive shedding indoors

Double-coated dogs often “blow coat” seasonally. If you don’t remove that loose coat before winter, it ends up all over your house instead of coming out in a controlled groom.

5. Improves drying time after getting wet

A coat full of dead undercoat holds water like a sponge. After a deshed:

Water sheds off better
Drying is faster
Less chance of that damp dog smell lingering
,

Note: We’re not taking the coat away—we’re removing what shouldn’t be there so the coat can actually keep your dog warmer this winter.

From $80 depending on coat condition and size.

IS YOUR DOG STARTING TO OVERHEAT AND FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE?

We offer grooming solutions that help keep your dog cooler and better cope with the hot weather. This will help them with the heat, avoid hotspots, and maintain healthy skin
We can give coated breeds such as Poodles, Sh*tzus, and Schnauzers a short summer clip.
For double-coated breeds such as Retrievers, Shepherds, Huskies, and Spitz breeds, we can do a deshed.
This involves removing as much of the undercoat as possible for better airflow. It will also have the added bonus of less fur around the home.

To book text 022 162 7740 or email [email protected].

IS YOUR DOG SHEDDING COAT EVERYWHERE?

Spring is here, and double-coated dogs like Huskies, Retrievers, Shepherds, Spitz Breeds, Collies, etc., are shedding their undercoats like crazy.

This is a sign that your dog's coat is blown. This means they are trying to release their winter undercoat. Having your dog deshedded is essential to their health.

Having your dog deshedded has numerous benefits, such as
- helps to keep them cooler and better able to regulate their body temperature.
- makes them more comfortable and keeps their coat and skin healthy.
- avoids matting, which is caused by the undercoat trying to come out.
- helps prevent hot spots and skin allergies by allowing the skin to breathe and drawing out natural oils released by a dog’s skin and fur.
- makes your dog smell less, as a lot of odor comes from the dead undercoat.
As an added bonus, there will be a lot less fur all through your home and on your clothes. Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely stop shedding, but the volume of fur can be significantly reduced.

If you are interested in a deshedding service for your dog, call or text to make a booking on 022 162 7740.

Location is Barkers Grooming, inside Waterwoofs building, 32b The Concourse, Henderson.

Deshedding service includes bath with a moisturizing shampoo, blow dry, undercoat removal, sanitary clip, under paw clip, nail clipping, ears cleaned, and scissor tidy as required.
