Kiwi Vet Behaviour

Kiwi Vet Behaviour Struggling with your pet’s behaviour issues but lost in a sea of misinformation? Why choose Veterinary Behaviour Treatment for my pet?

All animals use behaviour to communicate, your companion dogs, your cats, even your fish, will talk to you in many different ways about how they feel and what they need. A qualified vet can interpret all of these indicators to assess their health and mental wellbeing. Behaviour problems can stem from a wide range of causes, including medical, social and environmental. Being a qualified veterinaria

n with further training and experience in interpreting all of these factors, Dr Jess can help you gain a better understanding of why your companion is behaving in the way that they are. Once an understanding of that behaviour is reached, then a behavioural modification program will be formulated for your individual situation. In some cases medication may be recommended to aid your pets improvement.

A beautiful girl is looking for a new home in Auckland. She is looking for an active adult home that has some experience with resource guarding.

Josie is a loving, loyal golden retriever looking for her forever home with someone who is experienced with dogs.

She is affectionate and devoted to her people, and lights up for morning belly scratches, long walks, and a good run at the dog park. She has very basic obedience in place and is a willing learner.

Josie is a high energy girl who does well with structure. She will thrive with an active owner who enjoys being part of a dog’s training journey.

Josie resource guards objects and locations, and has an active desensitisation and counterconditioning programme underway based on Jean Donaldson’s Mine! Her new family will need to continue this work consistently.

Please reach out if you think this girl will suit your home...

A lovely message from the Organiser of Losing Lulu Summit 2026
"Today, I want to take a moment to honour the animals who brought us together. The animals. Dogs. Cats. Horses. Llamas, snakes, bunnies. Each one of those special animals who brought us together mattered. They mattered to themselves and to the people who lived with them. Each one of those animals had a life that mattered.
When we stop and remember the animals who walked alongside of us, even for a short period of time, we can find some way that they changed who we became. One of the ways that I honour these special beings is to keep a picture of one of my Lulus in my office where I can keep her in my thoughts on a regular basis. She was special. And she was mine, just as I was hers. She challenges me to learn more, every day. To remain compassionate. To take care of the little details.
Take a moment to remember your Lulu. It is tempting to remember the behaviour problems that caused them to be Lulus, instead of remembering who they were. We need to remember all of them, not just the part that screams the loudest. We need to keep in mind that the reason that Lulus are so difficult is simply because they were more than their problems."

At Kiwi Vet Behaviour we spend time building skills for you and your dog in environments they can succeed in. Gradually we increase the exposure to their triggers to set you all up for success.
When they see or hear triggers or feel stressed, it is not the time to learn these skills, so we create a toolbox of skills you can both reach for together.

Willow might make this look easy, but she has been working hard with her parents to learn new ways to say start and stop for her veterinary care.
Here, she gives the start signal before having Ange our vet nurse and trainer practice an injection in her muscle. She even went to a vet visit and showed off her skills!
