Hi Im Kristi Churches, owner and Proprietor of Brick Bay Equine. After a lifetime of being involved with horses while working a 9 to 5 office job, an accident changed my perspective and now I'm following my passion and involving my work around the thing I love, equines, big and small I love them all. With the support of my family we've been breeding and training horses for the past 20 odd years. W

e no longer breed sport horses as I am now focussed on a smaller version. Being a avid competitor since i was 7 years old my main focus being the show ring, I am happy to share my turnout knowledge and clipping skills with the rest of the equestrian community. i have competed and professionally turned out to HOY and National show level. i have experience with show clipping miniature and arabian horses and understand the requirements for many other breeds in regards to being shown in a "natural" state. I can't absorb all the increased costs of running my business any longer, its insane, my prices will be going up this financial year.

New Price List Effective from 1st of April 2025

CLIPPING
Full show clip (inc legs and head) $150
Full clip/Hunter clip $110
Blanket/Trace clip $100
Chaser/Irish clip $80
Bib/Belly clip $70
$10 discount above prices for ponies under 14 hands
$20 discount on above prices for miniatures and ponies under 10 hands

PLAITING
$60 Sewn Plaits
$40 Banded Plaits
$30 Tail Plait

SHOW TURNOUT
Quarter Markers $20
Face and Leg Make Up Application $40

MANE AND TAIL TIDYING
$40 mane pull
$30 mane trim (no pulling)
$30 tail tidy

$30-$50 leg/jaw/bridle path tidy (only charged if not clipping varies depending on feather)
$80 pre show makeover session - mane & tail pull/trim, leg jaw bridle path, outer ear trim.

Turnout or inhand individual or semi private lessons available $50 pp at my property.

Additional travel fees may be charged for travel over 30km from Dairy Flat.

Horses MUST be presented for clipping clean and dry or a $50 surcharge may be incurred to cover the cost of blade sharpening and clipper repair. It is incredibly expensive to replace, sharpen or send blades away these days so make sure your horse is clean so your clip is the best it can be and my gear is looked after for the next client.

πŸ’§ It is now common practice for hay (particularly untested hay) to be soaked prior to feeding to horses who may have health concerns such as obesity, metabolic conditions, laminitis, or dental disease. The reason? It helps to reduce the sugar content of the hay!

⏰ Soaking hay for 30-60 minutes prior to feeding has been proven to remove up to 30% of the water soluble carbohydrate (sugar) content which can be the difference between safe and non-safe forage for some horses.

🐴 Where some people are caught out though, is when they make assumptions about the sugar content of the hay based on the colour of the post-soak water, or when they assume the nutritive values of the hay just because it looks a certain colour or feels a particular texture. Risky business!

πŸͺ£ The actual culprit of the orange/brown water that results from soaking hay is tannins, minerals, and dirt leaching from the hay, which is why there is a strict guideline on soaking for only 30-60 minutes (and feeding immediately after) as you don’t want the nutritive value of the hay to decline too much. Additionally, soaking hay for longer than an hour increases the risk of fermentation and bacterial contamination.

Quick update as I have been MIA. Have just had my wrist injected to see if it helps an injury i sustained back in December plus the added bonus of carpal tunnel. So 2 injection sites. It's my dominant hand so that's me on forced rest. Will see everyone in the new year. Let's hope the pain was worth it!

Final Preparations are coming together nicely to get the show team ready for their first competition of the season this weekend at Cambridge Thoroughbred Lodge held by Waikato Miniature Horse Club the weather certainly hasn't made it easy, nor have bouts of the flu for our family and buying our first home which we take possession of today! No rest for the wicked right?

Core Blimey that was a workout! Its been a while since doing such an advanced cushings coat. My recommendation when the curl is at this stage is doing them every 6-8 weeks to keep it manageable. Otherwise it becomes matted quite easily. This lil darling will feel a whole lot better now.

Not only is the brand made in New Zealand and always striving to be more Eco Conscious but the range is ridiculously good and ever expanding. There are so many amazing lotions and potions aswell as a superb range of quality brushes for the grooming kit.
