Introducing myself, and the Hound & Keeper crew!

First off we have Tigger the jack russell. She is the matron of the place, approaching 13 years old and still tough as nails. She keeps everyone in line and keeps the place free from any crumbs or dropped food.
I got her in 2010 while I was still in school after my first russell passed away unexpectedly. I lost my best mate, but I gained a new one in Tigger. It’s amazing what dogs can do to your soul. ❤️

Then we have Osha, my border collie. She’s the teacher aid (kind, caring, patient, tolerant), not an authoritative or aggressive bone in her body.
Though most people think she is crossbred, she is 100% collie, but her unusual colouring is a result of a pigment mutation in the fur. They’re not as uncommon as you think! Osha is 8 years old, she came from a farm in Invercargill, and for any of you who have actually met her you will know she is the SWEETEST most gentle soul you will ever come across.

Then there’s me! Hi, I’m Indi, the smile behind Hound & Keeper. I wrote the posts and take the photos, and do the poop-scooping. 💩 I hold a diploma in Veterinary Nursing and have worked in several practices across Mid Canterbury.
I left nursing earlier this year to pursue more creative interests - some of you may know that I am also a self-published author and am writing my own fantasy novel series!

We also have Honey (pictured behind me in the car) who is our longest serving client. Honey is with us for a year or so while her mum does an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime OE!
Honey and Osha are around the same age and have spent the last 5 years being best friends (just like her mum and I). Honey is a collie cross retriever and is the most friendly people-dog you’ll ever meet.

And that’s the crew at Hound & Keeper!
We look forward to meeting those of you who will be using us in the future, and thank those of you who have stayed with us this year for your business and friendship.

Bella + Molly, two of our favourite little fur friends came to stay last weekend!
They had a great time with the other girls while their family went to celebrate a marriage. 🐾 ❤️

This little tripod spent a last-minute night with us a few weekends ago, and had a great time bird watching and toy chewing with the old girls!
There may have been some zoomies involved too, and a bit of tag, but for the most part she enjoyed a day of easy living 🐾❤️

On Saturday the girls got out for some backcountry adventuring with their furry friends!
A 5km walk accompanied by plenty of time in the river to chase rocks, cool off, and get dirty.
What more could a dog want?! 🐾 ❤️ 🐶

How cute is this little sausage that came to stay with us??
Chester spent 10 days with us while his family went on holiday. He had so much fun with the girls, explored some cool places, and became a pro at playing tug-o-war and fetch 🎾 🐾

It was Honey’s birthday a few months ago! Her mum sent her a birthday bark box, because she couldn’t be there to celebrate. It came packed full of yummy treats and birthday celebration accessories!
This post is a bit late, but happy birthday Honey 🥳 🎂 🎉 ❤️

Check out supermodel Blue, staying with us this weekend.

Blue and Osha (my collie) have a unique story. They’re actually littermates - sisters - born in Invercargill.
Blue’s mum and I met last year in 2021 when we worked together as veterinary nurses, and naturally we started talking about our dogs. We discovered we both owned collies that were about the same age, and when I asked where Blue came from, I was told Invercargill. Only a small coincidence, but that lead to the discovery that our girls, who, after seven years, live 500km away from their birth place, were sisters. We tracked down the TradeMe listing for proof.

Anyway, now Osha and Blue hang out sometimes. They share so many mannerisms, and both LOVE playing fetch.

Check out this big goof. He is the biggest gentle giant you’ll ever meet, and has been having a great time staying with us this Easter! 🐣

He loves his cuddles, especially at night, and thinks he’s a lap dog which is fine by me!
