My dear friend from Lesley Mapstone] posted earlier about a dog for adoption. She is now looking for a foster in Kathmandu.
“I run a rescue that does work in Kathmandu. When I was there in October I was feeding dogs at the Swoyambunath Stupa and treating them for mange and other topical illnesses.
I bonded with them, in particular I bonded with the alpha male, a dog I named Lion. Lion is five years old and had the role of peacemaker among five packs of dogs. He was the strongest and most powerful of many. He guarded the Stupa and his pack of ten, from drunkards, against violence from humans and other animals. He is a leader.
He bit the bum of a vagrant drunkard one early morning. That man had been at the temple the night before and had beaten a homeless person who lives there.
The drunk turned around and tried to kick Lion, but he missed. I stood in front of the dogs and stood up to the man making myself big and I told him “you cannot hurt these animals”.
He paused and turned to walk away. I thought he was leaving, but he turned around and pulled a small curved blade from inside of his pants waistline and he lunged at us. I screamed “no!” twice and he stumbled and missed us.
I had to remove Lion from the temple soon after that, and I need to find him a home.
I can vouch for this dog. He was living in a an environment where he was living up to his best self. He is dominant, not aggressive. He will not hurt those he knows. He has strong guarding instincts. He has since been in the care of a young dog trainer who did wonders for Lion. Lion is a dog who craves affection and comfort. He craves human relationships.
His current foster family is moving. He is in great danger of being returned to the temple and a violent death.
Please take time to speak with me about his case. He truly is a gentle animal looking for stability in a crazy world.”
Please contact Lesley Mapstone] if you are interested in fostering or adopting this very special dog.
