Today at our Teaching Hospital, we performed a life-saving blood transfusion in a Japanese Spitz named Kimchi. The patient presented with severe weakness and pale mucous membranes, and a complete blood count revealed marked anemia with an RBC count of only 1.53 million/ยตL.

After blood typing and cross-matching, a compatible donor was selected and whole blood transfusion was administered under continuous monitoring. Kimchi responded well during the procedure, with gradual improvement in perfusion and activity.

This case highlights the importance of quick diagnosis, proper transfusion protocols, and supportive care in managing severe anemia in small-breed dogs.

A responsible pet owner Mr. Avinash Kumar Gupta brought his Sultan; a 13 months old bitch for preventative health care to our Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He discussed about the reproductive health of its dog with our clinician Dr. Keshav Lamsal and made a decision of doing Ovariohysterectomy.
This procedure, commonly known as spaying, involved the removal of both the ovaries and uterus in a female animal.
The case not only showcased the expertise of our veterinary team but also underscored the importance of such procedures in preventing reproductive-related health issues. Students and practitioners alike gleaned invaluable insights into surgical techniques, patient care, and the broader impact of responsible pet management during this enlightening presentation.

A 4-month bovine calf from Nawalparasi immensely suffering from anuria from 3 days was presented at VTH today.

Chet Narayan Pandey, the calf owner had examined the calf with local treatment for 3 days and on increasing severity of the case, he brought the calf to our hospital. The case was diagnosed as urinary blockage and the bladder was intact which was confirmed by ultrasonography.

After the diagnosis and a detail talk with the calf owner, the tube cystotomy was performed. Foley Catheter was inserted inside urinary bladder to help the calf micturate and finally get relief from the pain.

All were happy to see the calf standing back after the accomplishment of the surgery.
