We are a small Maine C**n cattery located in the southern part of Norway. All of our cats are as family members to consider, and has access to the whole house and a 2500 square meters closed garden. The highest point in the garden is 'Vettehauen', hence the cattery name 'Vettekatten'. When it comes to breeding; good health and wonderful temperament is our top priority, in addition to a selection according to the breed standard. We prefer the “old-type” look, with a good expression, muscular body with a strong bone structure. The Maine C**n cat is a natural and robust cat in origin – and we think the breed should remain in that condition.

We have now finalized the health testing and started to plan the matings this year, and hoping the cats agrees with us. 🥰

And 2024 seems to be THE year of the tabby patterns in our cattery - either classic blotched (n 22) or mac (n 23).

We are planning two litters this spring, where ALL the kittens will be tabbies.

Plan 1 (the dam is homozygote for agouti):
Dante d'el Cuetu*ES (n 23) x NO*Vettekatten Sadie Sink (n 22)

It's about high time to present our Q-bunch! ☺️ ❤
Unfortunately, we lost one little boy within the first two weeks - but these four rascals are now slowly turning our home into an anarchy zone. 😅

Two boys and two girls waiting for their final names - 5 weeks today. ❤

Sire: Dante d'el Cuetu*ES
Dam: NO*Vettekatten Mitzi Dupree

DOB: 13th of February 2022

Today we are going to have a wonderful day in the greenhouse!

But it's also a matter of keeping "the children" occupied - in sake of a certain level of effectiveness! 😁😂😁

Olivia has already approved this mix of "seeds"!

The POWER of being SELF-CRITICAL as a breeder

1. You're always getting better.
Breeders who are self-critical, are always analyzing the situation, whether the outcome was good or bad. That means potential to improve.

2. You think everything through - several times.
It is a matter of making well-thought-out and informed decisions. Being self-critical means answering the potential questions that may arise. This can leads to being overly prepared, but over-prepared is certainly better than under-prepared.

3. You listen to others.
Breeders who are self-critical may be better than most at listening to others. Not only do breeders who are self-critical evaluate themselves, they are constantly seeking feedback too. There's always room to improve and they want to hear other people's suggestions on how to do so.

4. You're self-aware.
Breeders who are self-critical are self-aware. They know exactly where they need to improve, which is crucial when working towards your breeding goals. It's certainly true that the ability to see yourself as others see you is a key skill for breeders, and just about everyone else.

5. Your ego never runs away with you.
Successes might be in danger of getting a swelled head. Being self-critical prevents that from happening. The minute breeders think they no longer need direction or feedback because they do their job perfectly is the minute they slip and fall behind. Continuously questioning your work as a breeder keeps you from developing an ego.

For sure there will be times where being self-critical will cause doubt to creep in.
Being self-critical isn't about defining only one way to do something - the "perfect way". It's about learning all of the options available to you so you don't only default to one way of doing things or one way of thinking. Failing is a lesson learned too.

And all that analysis means you usually know when you gave something the best possible shot. 😉
You can run the right play and not get the touchdown, but you still ran the right play. You can still be happy with that. 🥰
