You know I like to talk ethics and after seeing framed bats at a ‘sustainable’ market today, I wanted to give a good example of ethically sourced specimens. I can say with confidence that all of these specimens have lived their full lives. How? Because I reached out to small breeders and bought their bugs and you can clearly see their tokens of life. No they are not perfect, but are we?
And yes I still use perfect specimens, lots of them I bought a long time ago. And it’s hard to completely stop using them, because small breeders will never be able to breed every single bug that has ever existed. But I really want to focus on finding those breeders that share my ethics or buy more vintage collections. So if my current work looks different, that’s why. Any opinions? Feel free to share them 👇🏼

Egg has been part of team Quality Control for over a year now at Wanna Buy Some Bugs and he has eaten or broken zero bugs so far (in comparison, Toast has ruined about seven specimens). What would you say, does he deserve a raise?

Hi friends! Just a little update here. I know in December I said I would be back by late January. Unfortunately life had different plans for us. At the end of 2024 we lost my father in law and two weeks ago we had to move my grandpa to a nursing home. And before that my seasonal depression was already creeping up on me (and don’t even get me started on the state of the world right now). I’ve been so tired lately and I know I’ll need some time to recover from this. Nonetheless my hands are slowly starting to itch to get creative again. So last Monday when the sun was out I grabbed my 70’s analog camera and I went to the nearest botanical garden. I still need to develop the pictures but being in nature and doing something that stimulates my silly brain made me feel like a person again. In a week I’ll have two weeks off from work and I expect to be posting a little bit more by then. I hope I can start pinning my ridiculous stock of bugs and prep for the upcoming months (and maybe a market, who knows?).
And I just want to let everyone know that if you feel like an old rag during the cold dark days, you’re not alone. Spring is coming friends, I can’t fu***ng wait 💛
