After months of preparation and witnessing the infection rates decreasing steadily, it is with pain in our hearts that we have to inform you that the Continental Sheepdog herding Championship of 2021 has been cancelled. In a extremely short time and completely unexpected, the number of infections in the Netherlands has risen suddenly and quickly after the government decided to open up. This fact makes the Netherlands a high risk country to travel to at the moment our participating European handlers. All countries have rightly so expressed their concerns, since travelling to the Netherlands in a couple of weeks is not without consequences.
This fact makes the situation uncertain and impossible. For this reason, we have called an emergency meeting with all competing countries and the European committee. After hearing all the input, we have decided to cancel the CSC 2021. The event can only be an official European Championship if there are enough competing countries and suddenly we do not have this certainty anymore. The CSC 2021 was meant to be a tribute to this wonderful sport, and we can not be sure it will be right now. This decision however, has been made with heavy hearts and has been utterly difficult.
As organization, we have been preparing for the CSC2021 for more than ten months. Aside from some details, the event was set and ready to welcome visitors and handlers for a fantastic week of competing. The sudden increase in infections that has come up the last two weeks has taken everybody by surprise, since vaccinating was going well and quickly. It has not been a light hearted decision, but one that had to be made, for the love of the sport.
In the upcoming period we will inform you on what is next. We will keep you posted and will take some time to sort things out. We cannot thank our sponsors, volunteers, the seven West-Frisian municipalities, in particular the municipality of Opmeer and all of our partners enough for their endless support and commitment.
On behalf of the entire CSC2021 team and Erik Groot, thank you for reading
