The last day of the year.

Even if your dog is not afraid of fireworks, you have to be more careful today. One bad experience is enough so that your dog is afraid of loud noises for the rest of his life

Take a long walk before sunset, to help your dog calm down for the night.
When you leave the house, make sure your dog wears a proper equipment:

-tag collar with your phone number: if they get loose, you don't have to wait until the person finds them goes to the vet to check the chip the next day, they can call you immediately. Also, check the chip and the data in it every time you go to the vet!

-escape proof collar or harness

and most importantly:
-leash! Today is not the day to take offleash walks.

If you have to go out in the dark, make it short and use a light collar or some kind of lights so your dog is visible from a distance!

Stay safe and have a Happy New Year! 🐶

It's almost Christmas!🌲

Has it snowed yet where you live? ❄️

If yes, send us a pic of your dog playing in the snow!
If you live in an area where it hasn't really snowed yet (like we do), send us your favourite snowy pic of your dog from the previous years! 🥰

Collar or harness?

Collar:
- If it’s the correct size, it can be safer, the dog can’t pull their head out of it
- Better for training
- Easier to control the dog

Harness:
- The safety harness is at least as safe as a collar
- Wider options regarding style and function (special harness for car drives, for running, pulling, not to talk about all the different everyday-use ones)
- If you use a seatbelt in the car to secure the dog, always attach it to a (crash-tested) harness, never use it with a collar!

Conclusion: you have to decide what your goal is with the equipment and choose the one that fits your needs the most.

If you need any advice on what to use, we have online one-on-one sessions where we can talk about it! :)

Yesterday's post is missing, so I'll post it now.

Did you know? It’s never too late to train your dog.

Yes, above a certain age they are not capable of everything they could do earlier, but even a senior dog can learn new tricks. And they should, too, because using their brains helps them to stay young in their minds.

Always consider your dog’s limits and choose tricks that they can easily do - think about low impact tricks, like hand touch for example.

If you would like to learn new tricks, join our trick course!

Did you know?

Dogs don’t generalize well.

For example if you teach them that “sit” means they have to sit down in the living room, they don’t necessarily know it means the same in the park. You have to practice in different environments and with different distractions to make sure they will sit down everywhere when they hear that cue. It gets easier by time, especially if you spend the time practicing a lot with the first few commands.
