DOG OWNERSHIP 101: DO NOT JUST LEAVE YOUR DOG ALONE IN A DOG PARK!!!
Anyone who knows me will know I am pretty laid-back and I don't get easily flustered when it comes to animals, but I am very angry right now!
After picking up some worming tablets for my cat from the vet, Bella and I went along to the dog-run enclosure on Bert Haanstrakade (Ijburg). About 20 or so meters ahead of us was a young lady with a young husky.
She entered the dog run a little ahead of us and I thought nothing more of it.
Bella is happily playing with another dog there and I am chatting to its owner.
A few minutes later I notice that the husky is loose and running along the promenade parallel to the dog run.
I assume he has somehow jumped out and so I open a gate to usher him back inside whilst looking for his owner.
She is nowhere to be found!!
I waited for over THIRTY-FIVE MINUTES for her to come back for the dog and asked every passerby if they knew who he belonged to.
After another successful attempt to leave the enclosure via a broken panel on one of the gates and run blindly into the road and oncoming traffic, I had had enough!
I caught the husky and promptly took him to the vets where upon scanning him for a chip we learned that he is registered at an address on the other side of NL and there is some 'story' behind this dog ... I am not sure what that means ...
Whilst in the vets another customer told us she had seen this very dog running loose along the main road from Haveneiland to Steigereiland just a couple of weeks ago!!
I am FURIOUS. It is absolutely NOT acceptable to leave your dog alone in a dog run enclosure - for multiple reasons!!
And dog owners of Ijburg, if your pup has Houdini-style tendencies be extra watchful right now at the dog run on Bert Haanstrakade since there is currently a loose panel on one of the gates. I will contact the gemeente about it ASAP.
Husky is safe with the vets now with arrangements being made to contact his owner ... I have asked them to contact me with an update later.
