Pesticide💦 exposure in and around homes raises long-term health concerns, especially for children. It has been linked to chronic conditions such as cancers, diabetes, reproductive and neurological disorders, and birth defects. These risks extend to veterinary health as well.
Spot-ons💦 like Fipronil & imidacloprid are highly toxic pesticides⚠️ that are no longer approved for use in outdoor agriculture but continue to be widely used in pet flea treatments, typically applied to the back of the pet’s neck (known as spot-ons) and used in poison baits for ants🐜 and cockroaches.
Studies show that households with pets treated for fleas and ticks may increase pesticide exposure in humans, particularly children👧, through direct contact or contaminated dust.
One study found that Fipronil can transfer from mother to unborn baby via the placenta, and exposure to fipronil’s toxic breakdown product, fipronil sulfone, during pregnancy🤰🏻 has been associated with reduced thyroid function in newborn babies as well as lower Apgar scores, a score used to test the health of a newborn.
