Internal vs external dogs :
It’s a way of manifesting energy in dogs, it's genetic.
Certain dogs when they are excited, get very focused and quite still, their energy goes inwards and when they sit, they sit still for a long time.

External dogs are the king of the shows; their whole internal arousal gets shown outside - they wag their tails, they jump, their legs shake and you can see their energy.

Both of those have benefits and their drawbacks, but we need to be aware of which our dog is, to tailor our training system to that dog.

If my dog is external I have to reward him in his place to reinforce this behavior. If my dog is internal, it allows me to release him and make a dynamic reward system.
