🧠 LET’S TALK ABOUT FEED FORMULATION (THE REAL TRUTH)
Lately, I’ve been seeing comments like:
“Alhaji, talk about feed formulation.”
“Give us formula for ruminants.”
“Alhaji, share feed ratio for goats and sheep.”
And honestly, I hear you. But let’s be truthful and clear:
👉 Feed formulation is not a one-size-fits-all matter.
It is way wider and more complex than what most people think.
Look ehn, formulating feed for ruminants is not trial and error. It’s not “just mix and pour.” It requires proper understanding, because not all animals are the same.
Some are:
– Young and still growing bones
– Fully grown but need fattening
– Pregnant and need support for two
– Sīck and need recovery
– Or breeding animals that need fertility-focused feed
Example? Oya see this:
You can’t feed a 3-month-old lamb the same ration as a 3-year-old ram.
– One needs protein and bone support
– The other just wants to build meat for market or Sallah
You also can’t feed a pregnant ewe what you’re giving a breeding ram. And abeg, don’t give a goat with diarrhea the same feed that caused it. That one na double wahala! 😅
🔍 Think of it this way:
Why do broiler chickens have:
– Starter
– Grower
– Finisher feed?
Because their needs change with time.
So why are you using one single formula for all your sheep and goats?
You no go feed layers with broiler grower feed — unless you want chest muscles instead of eggs. 😅
Same logic applies in ruminants.
– A ewe is preparing to lay down bābies.
– A rām is preparing to lāy down in the pot. 😂
📌 So when people ask, “Let’s talk about feed formulation,” my first question is:
For which animal?
What age?
What purpose?
Cattle, ram, ewe, or lamb? They all have different approach.
Because one wrong feed can cause:
– Stūnted growth
– Weāk body frame
– Fertīlity issues
– Miscārriāge
– Or even dēāth (especially due to calcium imbalānce during delivēry)
✅ Let’s break it down:
– Pregnant animals: Need calcium, fiber, and balanced minerals
– Young lambs: Need high protein for muscle and bone growth
– Market rams: Need energy-rich, fattening feed to get prepared for Sallah.
– Sīck animals: Need light, healing, digestible meals
– Breeding ewes: Need steady, fērtility-friendly rations and not that type of formular that can affect c0nception
📣 Livestock people, let’s feed with sense, not just with quantity.
It’s not “who chop pass go grow pass” but it’s who chop RIGHT.
We’re not here to argue who sabi pass.
We’re here to learn, grow, and succeed together.
We rise by feeding right. 🙌
We succeed when we understand our animals’ needs.
Abi I lie about this one ? 🤷♂️
