I went to Akinyele Market along Oyo and met this young guy.
He was hustling in the rain with bundles of money on his hand. He rolled up his trousers against the muddy floor and his polo shirt was drenched in water.
I turned to my brother who was with me and I told him I prefer what this guy is doing to what I'm doing. He didn't understand the statement, he asked for clarification.
"This guy has 100s of rams and goats here, he is in charge of millions of naira and he is making money, I prefer to be in the rain like him, selling and buying than sitting in the office and recieve stipend as salary at the end of the month.
He looked at me confusingly.
I told him I'll prove it to him.
I approached the guy and priced some rams, in this process, I started a conversation with him and told him I wanted to start the business. He laughed and said I can't do it because I look fresh and I might not be able to do the dirty work.
What a way to profile an individual.
I persuaded him and he explained.
"If you have 2million naira and a land, you can start" He said and I asked how.
"After sallah, go to the North and buy 20 sheeps and 2 rams, bring them and put them on the secured land. Cut grasses for them to feed them and leave them to mate. Now buy new born rams and goat's maybe 50 of them and add them to the ones you've bought. The sheeps will take care of the small ones. Before ileya next year, those small ones you bought for 50k will be sold for 300k. "
"Hmmm..." I hummed.
"But yoruba people always want fast money." He concluded.
I got his number and left.
An hausa friend later told me about the guy. He said he is just 26, he has 3 houses and a wife each in those houses. He started the business 4 years ago and he is doing fine with it.
If you see me posting rams and sheeps tomorrow, it means I don go take advice from an Hausa entrepreneur.
The goal is ot sitting under the AC and getting fresh skin, it's about working hard and getting the money.
