A truck carrying more than 800 dogs was stopped before reaching its destination, where the animals were reportedly being transported for slaughter. The dogs had endured days in cramped cages, exhausted and in poor condition. The situation changed when one individual intervened, leading to a larger group stepping in to prevent the journey from continuing.

This is a powerful moment for animal welfare. The Moran Dog Meat Market — once the largest and most notorious in South Korea — has officially been shut down.

For years, this market sold up to 80,000 dogs annually, making it a symbol of a deeply controversial and painful trade. Today, that chapter has finally come to an end.

Animal rights group In Defense of Animals has welcomed the closure as a major victory, but they’ve also warned that the fight isn’t over. Some traders may try to move their operations elsewhere.
