Ascites in dogs is a condition characterized by the buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity. It's a symptom of an underlying medical problem, rather than a disease itself. This fluid accumulation can cause the dog's belly to appear distended.

Causes of Ascites in Dogs:

Ascites can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions, including:

Liver disease: Cirrhosis and other liver diseases can lead to fluid buildup in the abdomen.

Heart failure: Both right-sided and congestive heart failure can cause fluid to accumulate in the abdomen.

Kidney disease: Nephrotic syndrome and kidney failure can also contribute to ascites.

Cancer: Some types of cancer can cause fluid to accumulate in the abdomen.

Infections: Infections, such as bacterial infections, can also lead to ascites.

Malnutrition: Severe malnutrition can cause ascites.

Portal hypertension: Increased pressure in the portal vein can lead to fluid leakage into the abdominal cavity.

Hypoalbuminemia: Low albumin levels in the blood can also cause ascites.

Symptoms of Ascites in Dogs:

Besides a distended abdomen, other symptoms of ascites can include:

Difficulty breathing: The fluid in the abdomen can put pressure on the lungs.

Lethargy: The dog may be less active and energetic.

Reduced appetite: The pressure in the abdomen can make it uncomfortable for the dog to eat.

Vomiting: The pressure from the fluid can also cause vomiting.

Pain or discomfort: The dog may exhibit signs of pain or discomfort in the abdominal area.

Diagnosis of Ascites:

A veterinarian will likely perform a physical exam, blood tests, and possibly imaging studies (such as radiographs or ultrasound) to determine the cause of the ascites.

Treatment of Ascites:

Treatment of ascites focuses on addressing the underlying cause and managing the fluid buildup. This may involve:

Diuretics: Medications that help the body eliminate excess fluid.

Dietary changes: A low-sodium diet can help reduce fluid retention.

Abdominocentesis: A procedure to drain the excess fluid from the abdomen.

Treatment of the underlying cause: Addressing the cause of the ascites (e.g., heart failure, liver disease) is crucial.

Did you know that Myasis can affect dogs of all ages and breeds?

Myiasis in dogs is an infestation of fly larvae, or maggots, in living tissue, often in wounds or areas of skin that are soiled with f***s or urine. It's most common in dogs that are sick, debilitated, or kept in poor hygienic conditions.

Myiasis can be a painful and distressing condition for dogs. If your furry friend is experiencing symptoms like maggots, wounds, or discomfort, seek veterinary care immediately.

Fly season is here!!! Protect your dog from myasis with these simple tips:

*PREVENTION TIPS:

1. Keep your dog's living area clean and dry.
2. Regularly inspect their coat and wounds.
3. Use fly repellents or protective measures during peak fly seasons.

*SUPPORT AND CARE:

1. Follow your veterinarian's treatment plan.
2. Keep your dog's wounds clean and dressed.
3. Provide a comfortable and safe environment.

Mealtime is more than just a necessity - it's a special bonding moment between you and your pup! Capture the joy and excitement on their face when they chow down on their favorite food.

Here's a list of foods that dogs can eat and can't eat:

*FOODS DOGS CAN EAT:

1. CARROTS🥕 Crunchy and sweet, carrots are a healthy snack.
2. GREEN BEANS: Low in calories, green beans make a great treat.
3. SWEET POTATOES🥔: Cooked and plain, sweet potatoes are a nutritious option.
4. APPLES🍏🍎: Sliced apples (without seeds or cores) are a tasty snack.
5. PUMPKIN: Plain, cooked pumpkin can help with digestion.
6. CHICKEN🍗: Cooked, boneless chicken is a protein-rich treat.
7. RICE🍚: Plain, cooked rice is easily digestible.

*FOODS DOGS CAN'T EAT:

1. CHOCOLATE🍫 Toxic due to theobromine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and heart issues.
2. GRAPES🍇 Can cause kidney failure, leading to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy.
3. ONIONS🧅/GARLIC🧄: Can damage red blood cells, leading to anemia.
4. CAFFEINE: Can cause restlessness, rapid heartbeat, and tremors.
5. BONES: Cooked bones can splinter and cause choking or digestive issues.
6. AVOCADO🍐: While not toxic, avocado pits, skins, and leaves can cause issues; moderation is key for the fruit itself.
7. RAW OR UNDERCOOKED MEAT🥩/EGGS🥚: May contain bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli, leading to food poisoning.

Always consult with your veterinarian before introducing new foods or treats to your dog's diet.

Uterine prolapse in dogs, while rare, is a condition where the uterus protrudes through the v***a, often during or after labor, and can be treated with manual reduction, cleaning, and potentially surgery if tissue is damaged.

An untreated prolapse can cause sores on the cervix (opening to the uterus)and increase chances of infection or injury to other pelvic organs.

Uterine prolapse in dogs, or vaginal prolapse, is primarily caused by increased estrogen levels during the heat cycle, which can weaken vaginal tissues, and straining during difficult labor (dystocia). Other factors include forced separation during copulation, constipation, and intestinal parasitism.

Prevention:Spaying the dog is the only way to prevent future uterine prolapses.

If you notice this on your dog, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Before vs After 🦷 🪥

Don’t underestimate the importance of dental cleaning for your pet especially if your pet constantly lick your body or face.

Your pet oral hygiene is for their good and it keeps their health in good shape. Too many plaques will damage your dog tooth and also gives more room to bacteria to grow.

Nobody want to keep a dog or cat with mouth odor, dental cleaning will prevent this.

Smell your dog mouth today! If it smells awful or you noticed plaque build up, don’t hesitate to send us DM or Call 08091500008.

Dental cleaning will help restore that fresh breathe 💕🐕
