πŸ“β€ΌοΈPlease see the Public Notification regarding the declaration of an African Horse Sickness outbreak in Namibia and the control measures in place.

Take note that horses usually don't need movement permits to move, but in the case of an outbreak, if you need to move horses you will need to apply for a movement permit first.

Farmhouse is proud to introduce our latest addition to the family Dedre Human. She will be the friendly face and voice that will greet and attend to your furry pet needs and requests at reception. Dedre is also a part time student studying animal science and has a special intrest in wildlife management! How cool is that?! She hopes to persue her own career in veterinary medicine as well and Farmhouse will be one of the first stepping stones to help guide her to her dream.

Give a warm welcome everyone! πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ΄πŸΆπŸƒπŸ¦“πŸ„

"Animal health takes a team"

Veterinarians don't work in isolation. Therefore, this World Veterinary Day we take a moment to recognize and appreciate everyone involved in the field. From vet technicians, vet nurses, animal handlers, animal behaviorists, vet students, veterinarians, to individuals in other fields working in close relation.

All is made possible through a collective effort. Mitigating the spread of disease and ensuring food security.

So take a moment to appreciate all members that contribute to animal health and welfare.

!!!!*5 Fun Facts About a Horses Teeth*!!!!

1. Adult horses have between 36 and 44 teeth (females have 36-40, males have 40-44).

2. A foal (baby horse) grows 24 baby teeth, also known as caps. These caps are lost by 5 years of age
3.Horses teeth constantly erupt (grow) throughout their lifetime, they are born with very long tooth roots that get gradually smaller as they get older.

4.We can use horse’s teeth to give an idea of age.

5.Your horse’s teeth take up more space in their head then their brains!

It is strongly recommended that your horse or pony’s teeth are examined at least once a year by a veterinary surgeon or an equine dental technician (on the BAEDT register). These examinations may be more frequent if you have a young horse (younger than 5 years), older horses (over 20 years old) or if there are known problems that need to be checked more regularly.

A horse or pony may show signs of dental problems such as dropping food (also known as quidding), a fowl smelling mouth, weight loss, excess salivation or behavioural changes when ridden. It is always important to remember that equines are prey animals, so, in some cases, show no symptoms at all but may have pain related to their teeth or mouth.
