What a way to spend a Public Holiday!

NAWA teams asked to work and the dividends where spectacular 🌟

Our usual Thursday turned into a Super Thursday!

11 x sterilisations
1 x dog surgery stitch up due to dog fight
1 x PARVO puppy treatment
3 x goats - 2 x extensive wound treatment for dog attack
22 x equids for vaccinations and humane tack hand out. Major community education for 3 full hours📚

Our take away was how much this community appreciates NAWA.
We were even told… we love you 🥰

Thank you to ALL who support and sponsor🙏🏻

Jocelyn and her fluffy family are regulars at NAWA’s static practice in Groot Aub.

She has learned so much about animal welfare and primary health care from our vet team.

See Jocelyn’s interview to get the full story 💓

Goodbye dear, sweet 'Blackie' 😢

On Monday morning he was found lying (for who knows how long) behind the museum in Rehoboth. Completely unable to move so no food and water and swollen badly on a back leg.

No owner responded to posts, so NAWA asked a kind soul, Deodene, to transport him to UNAM for assessment and medication.

'Blackie' was released to NAWA's halfway house where he was monitored hourly even through the nights that he slept on Aron's bed and blanket. He was properly loved and cared for, for his last 4 days.

The decision to euthanise him today was NOT easily agreed to but he had not stood up yet, he had not taken any food of any kind, and he still could not urinate.

🩺Diagnose after further x-rays and blood smears: liver and kidney failure!
🦠Causes: toxins, poisons, trauma and genetic dispositions.

Sleep well dear boy, we tried our best😢

Thank you to all who assisted with the veterinary bills🙏

Namibia!

Animal welfare is not and never will be about cats and dogs only.

NAWA’s posts sometimes bore the cat people, NAWA’s posts sometimes bore the dog people.
We do not apologize for that and hope you can understand why💓

We are acutely aware of the fact that not everyone has money for a vehicle/a taxi ride or even a bicycle and therefore still use the oldest, cheapest and NOT easiest form of transport- the horse, mule or donkey.

Often it is securing these animals into a cart. This takes patience, guts, skill and a lot of coercion.

We city folk will never understand even one tenth of the dynamics. Never.

Everywhere NAWA goes (from Rundu to Aranos; from Kuiseb river to Gobabis) we respect that, and do our utmost to assist this genre of people with equipment, meds and guidance on better ways.

We have some exceptional equid experts in our Project Donkey team and you are welcome to join us in improving the lives of Namibia’s working animals.

We are urgently looking for vets/vet students interested in equids for a trip to Rundu end of June 2026.

Please contact Janine 081 694 3394

46 cats sterilised since January!

😻NAWA’s latest project, TNR, (trap neuter and release) is producing wonderful results for the feral cat colonies in Groot Aub and surrounding satellite areas.

Our 6 newly acquired cages have effectively helped increase our cat sterilisation numbers already and we are aiming to break all previous year records.

😼Female cats can have a very, very successful breeding year with possibility 4 litters producing an average of 20 kittens per year.

😾Male cats are 10 times more successful and their numbers cannot even be estimated!

😸If you are smart, responsible and wise you will assist the cat explosion in Windhoek but sterilising your cat and then assisting NGO’ with sterilising street cats. Please🙏🏻

We are thankful to sponsors and donors who made it possible to add this important project to our many ongoing projects:

- (151 animals sterilised since January)

Happy World Donkey day!

🐴🫏🐎 NAWA’s Project Donkey team headed out of Windhoek to Witvlei and surrounding areas to assist with cart equipment and general wound treatment of the working equids there.

A GREAT day! We helped a few dogs with parasite treatment too.🐶

🙏🏻 Thank you to OSKA-Karnevalsgesellschaft Witvlei who kindly donated the funds to NAWA so we can continue to service their immediate community with animal welfare and basic care and health education.
A community that is always very thankful and happy to see us return.
