Winter hits differently out here at the ARK, close to the Omaruru river. The temperature drops fast, and when the wind comes through at night, it doesn’t just feel cold - it gets into everything. Our outdoor kennels, catteries, even the ground itself holds onto that chill.

At the ARK, with over 100 animals in our care, keeping everyone warm becomes a daily priority during these months. Puppies curl up tighter. Older dogs and cats feel the cold in their joints. Even the healthiest animals need extra help to stay comfortable through the night.

Right now, one of the simplest and most powerful ways to help is something as basic as a blanket.

A blanket might seem small, but here it can mean an extra layer of warmth whilst our rescues wait for their forever homes. It can mean a puppy sleeping peacefully instead of shivering through the night. It can mean comfort, safety, and survival when the temperature drops.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 🐾💛

While we wish we could host our Inspire with The ARK sessions and visits more often, moments like these remind us just how meaningful each visit truly is.

This week we had the privilege of welcoming another wonderful group of boys from Taking Hands Educational Centre. Many of them had already spent time with us before - either visiting ARK or joining one of our educational sessions where we talk about kindness towards animals, responsible care, vaccinations, and sterilisation. It was clear to see the impact. Their compassion, curiosity, and respect for animals shone through today.

One of the boys arrived feeling afraid of animals, and it’s moments like these that matter most. Through patience, education, and gentle exposure, we hope to help transform this fear into understanding - and eventually, into care and connection.

Every session brings us one step closer to building a more compassionate community. With a small team, limited time, and very little funding, we’re only able to host these sessions when circumstances allow. But we hold onto the vision of growing this initiative, hopefully one day reaching more children through regular, bi-monthly sessions.

At its heart, this project is about education, awareness, and action - and this recent visit was a beautiful reminder of what’s possible. 💚
