* The hill mynah is the variety most often kept as a pet and is the one that can "speak" like a human. Most pet owners get this kind of mynah. These birds are friendly and clever and adapt well to living in cages, which makes them excellent pets. They can be bred in captivity. These 25-30 cm long birds have glossy black plumage and when struck by the light you see a sheen of iridescent purple, turquoise and green. They have large white wing patches which are obvious in flight. The bill and strong legs are bright yellow or orange, and there are yellow wattles (loose folds of skin) on the head, the shape and position of which vary with species. They have a bright orange beak that fades to yellow at the tip. Males and females look alike. Immature Hill Mynahs look like adults but the plumage is usually dull and may even have a ragged appearance until they have gone through the first molt. Juveniles also have duller beaks. Hill Mynas are prized for their vocal skills for hundreds of years. Even though all Hill Mynas are capable of human speech, some are better than others. Some are able to talk with the same tones and clarity of speech as the human voice they mimic. The Hill Mynah has been described as the best talking bird in the world, indeed the champion of mimics! They feed on ripened fruit, especially figs. They also eat berries and seeds from a wide variety of trees and shrubs, and nectar from several kinds of flowers. Occasionally they eat insects from the foliage of trees and termites. They may also eat a small lizard or other small mammal to feed to their babies during breeding season. Mynah breeders offer meal worms for this purpose.

* They reach maturity at 1 to 3 years -- the smaller Conures mature more quickly. In a safe, healthy environment, they can expect to live up to 35 to 40 years. The Green-cheeked Conure is primarily green, with a grey breast, dark head, maroon tail and blue flight feathers. Its average weight is about 70 g - but the general weight range of this species is between 60 to 80 grams. The average length (including tail) is 10 - 11 inches (25 -27 cm). Males and females look alike. The Green Conures have big personalities for such small birds. They have become a favorite in the pet trade because of their sweet personalities and fun disposition. They are playful, affectionate and intelligent. Green cheeks are not considered the best talkers. However, some particularly smart green cheeks learned to talk quite well, according to their owners. The majority of green cheeks say only a few things, and there is no guarantee that they will ever learn to talk. They also have soft and gravelly voices, so even if they try to talk, they may not say anything understandable. But there are also some green cheeks who talk a lot. If you talk to some smart greencheeks in context they often learn to speak in context (i.e. "good night" at night, "bye bye" when you leave for work in the morning, "hello" when they greet you). Green-cheeked Conures can be noisy (although less so than other conures). They can be prone to biting, particularly when young, but an owner can cure this behavior with patience and time. Behavioral issues can be avoided or minimized with proper handling and socialization.

* 绿颊锥尾鹦鹉在繁殖季会组成10到20只左右的小团体，有时候则会聚集比较多的数量。有季节性迁移的习性。在觅食的时候，可以接近到相当近的距离观察，由于体色在浓密枝叶间形成相当好的掩蔽，因此平时在林中相当难以察觉。绿颊锥尾鹦鹉在飞行的时候通常高度较低，呈直线状，但是相当吵杂。主要以干燥的种子、花朵、浆果以及坚果为主食。绿颊锥尾鹦鹉依照不同亚种体长为24到26厘米，体重60-80克。这种鹦鹉体为绿色，头部前方有一条细窄的红棕色羽毛分布；前额、头顶、头部后方以及耳羽为棕色；沿着颈部则分布些许蓝色的羽毛；颈部两侧、喉咙、胸部上方的羽毛从褐色渐渐变为棕绿色，每片羽毛均有浅棕灰色到暗黄色的滚边；脸颊两侧带有些黄绿色的羽毛；主要以及二级飞行羽为蓝色，下腹部带有一块红棕色的羽毛；尾巴内侧覆羽带有蓝色，尾巴上方为绿底带有红棕色，并且完全隐藏在尾巴上方的覆羽之内；眼睛周围有着一圈白色的裸皮，鸟喙为深灰色，虹膜为棕色。幼鸟的体色和成鸟大致相同，但是整体羽色较暗淡，虹膜颜色也比较深，下腹部的红棕色羽毛亦只有零星分布。

* Fat-tailed gerbils are solitary animals, and sometimes live in colonies. Fat-tailed gerbils become active at dusk and this is the same in captivity - although they can sometimes appear to be diurnal. Fat-tailed gerbils are mostly insectivorous, but will eat also a variety of plants. In captivity, they are kept on a basic rodent mix, and are fond of mealworms, crickets, moths, and almost any other insect, even beetles. They can also be given some vegetables and fruit, like carrots, cauliflower, chicory, and apples. Captive specimens of the fat-tailed gerbil have an average life span of between 2 and 4 years. Fat-tailed gerbils, like most other rodents, have scent glands on their stomach and engage in marking their territory by stretching out and rubbing their bellies on the ground and furnishings.

* Winter Pearl hamsters reproduce at a faster rate than Syrian hamsters. Produces species are able to become pregnant again on the same day that they have given birth. This can all happen within a 36-day period. This is done as a survival strategy to produce large numbers of offspring in a short period of time. This places tremendous demands on the mother. Frequent fighting can occur between the pups and as soon as they are weaned from their mother, they are separated from her. Most of the dwarf hamsters grow to 3 to 4" long. Hamsters maintained indoors that get artificial illumination during autumn and winter are likely to breed all year round, whereas in the wild and in animals maintained in captivity but under entirely natural light-dark cycles, breeding is restricted to the long days of spring and summer. During the breeding time, the hamster may become aggressive. After mating, the female may want to attack the male to protect her babies. The male usually hides in holes or caves to escape the vicious bite of the female. The hamster's estrous cycle lasts four days; every four days, the female may accept the male back to breed again. This usually occurs when the darkness of the evening sets in. If male and female hamsters are not housed together from a young age, determining if the female is willing to breed with the male is difficult. Of the five species kept commonly as pets, only Campbell's dwarf hamster and Winter Gold & Pearl hamsters are able to interbreed and produce live hybrid offspring. Although hybrids make suitable pets, the breeding of hybrids and cloning can cause health and reproduction problems. In addition, the widespread breeding and distribution of hybrids could threaten the existence of both pure species and subspecies of the ecosystem, resulting in only mongrels. Hybridizing causes each litter to become smaller and the young begin to form congenital problems. Hamsters are fairly low maintenance compared to other pets, but it is vital that their needs be met. Hamsters have personality plus. Hamsters bond closely with their owners. Hamsters need less space than other pets. Hamsters are easily trained.
