🧠 What is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that result in increased intraocular pressure (IOP), leading to damage of the optic nerve and potentially irreversible blindness if not treated promptly.
🐶🐱 In Veterinary Medicine (Dogs & Cats):
Common in dogs, especially breeds like Cocker Spaniels, Basset Hounds, and Shiba Inus etc
Often referred to as the "silent thief of sight" because it progresses painlessly until vision is affected.
Can be primary (genetic) or secondary (due to other ocular diseases like lens luxation or uveitis).
🔬 Diagnosis Tools:
Tonometry (e.g. using iCare Tonovet) to measure IOP.
Gonioscopy to evaluate the drainage angle.
Fundic exam to assess optic nerve damage.
The easiest and quickest way will be using a tonometer, less stress for the patient, no anesthesia needed 👁️
