This is why we recommend a flat ear cut instead of a V-shaped cut. A V-shaped ear could also be caused by an animal bite, although this is quite rare. However, it is very uncommon for equipment to cause a flat-shaped cut, so a flat cut is easier to identify as an intentional marking.

The side of the ear also has a meaning:

Right ear = Rabies vaccination (both start with “R”)
Left ear = Neutered
