At an early age I was exposed to sewing and crafting as Mom is an avid sewist and a DIY enthusiast capable of building dog houses and chicken coops besides knitting, crochet and patchwork. Coming from Peranakan background, however as kids, she together with her many siblings was not allowed into the kitchen but she managed to 'steal' some know-how by observing from afar and constantly experimentin
g. When she first got married, she didn't even know how to boil water. But her steel will and the necessity to cook for us resulted in her brand of cooking., mainly Nyonya and Western, often tweaked to use whatever was available in the fridge. I am driven by the need to create things that solve practical problems. Armed with sewing and crafting skills, I approach CREATIVITY with a combination of' 'AESTHETICS' and 'FUNCTIONALITY' and a dose of CURIOSITY. My profession is in teaching computing skills and my students provide me a chance to study human nature and the psychology of learning. I have always been interested in how humans communicate and how things are often miscommunicated. My Three Black Cats Studio is my haven for learning and experimenting and of course, to provide an additional source of income. An additional reward is getting to see my customers happy with what I have done for them. In 2019, I discovered I had endometrial cancer (stage 1) & in 2021 I had colon cancer (Stage 4). Currently under-going chemotherapy but thankfully I am still fine. To motivate me on, I am putting my energy into CRAFTING & SEWING & everything artsy... I am starting my craft venture on ETSY. making only one-off designs of MACRAME , BATIK & UP-CYCLED DENIM items.
