JUSTICE FOR THE VOICELESS
I'm writing this incident with a heavy heart.
Last night I received a video from a witness who recorded a man abusing his Husky dog. So that means the witness is the complaint whose particulars are safely kept with DVS.
I shared it immediately with the Department of Veterinary Malaysia officer who looked into the case. He immediately started collecting information before they could proceed to take further action.
In the meantime, I shared the video with other NGOs and animal rescuers for help.
From what I know the authorities usually are very helpful and they do justice for the dog. Yes, everything has got procedures they need to follow and they do take action.
Sadly, today by the time the authorities from DVS Selangor went over to the place of incident, they came to know an independent rescuer by the name of Shima Aris took the dogs away from the place of incident.
The dog is the main source of proof for the authorities to take action against the owner.
Since I do not know Shima and her contact number, I went through another rescuer and told Shima Aris to handover the dog to the authorities so that action can be taken against the abuser. All she answered was NO, THANK YOU.
So how can the authorities get justice for the abused dog?
Don't you think the owner will abuse another dog again cos he was saved by Shima Aris from the authorities.
At the end of the day because of the independent rescuer taking action into their own hands, we NGOs can't be the voice for the voiceless.
She has stood as a barrier towards our Malaysian Animal Welfare Act.
She has infact not only interrupted DVS duty towards the animal abuse case but has also insulted DVS by stating that they are useless.
Sincerely sad that we NGOs and Department of Veterinary Malaysia couldn't do anything as evidence (the abused dog) has had been taken away by Shima Aris
