🐶 Canine Papillomavirus Tumors in Dogs 🦠

Have you noticed small, wart-like growths in your dog’s mouth or around their face? It could be canine papillomavirus.

This virus causes benign tumors that look like warts, often seen in young dogs with developing immune systems. The good news? These growths are usually harmless and go away on their own within a few weeks to months.

🔍 What to look for:

Small, cauliflower-like warts

Most common on the lips, tongue, and gums

Sometimes found around the eyes or paws

📌 What to do:

Keep an eye on the growths

Avoid contact with other dogs while warts are present (it's contagious!)

Visit your vet if they bleed, grow quickly, or don’t go away

🧼 Good hygiene and a healthy immune system can help prevent infections. Most dogs recover without treatment!

Cutaneous lymphoma is a rare form of skin cancer in dogs that originates in the lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell). It typically appears as:

🔸 Red, scaly, or ulcerated skin lesions
🔸 Itchy patches that don’t heal
🔸 Nodules or lumps on the skin

📍 It often starts on the gums, lips, or inside the mouth but can affect any part of the skin.

While the exact cause is unknown, early detection and treatment are key. If your dog has persistent skin issues that don't respond to treatment, consult your vet—skin changes can be more than just allergies.

🧪 As in this dog's case, diagnosis is confirmed through a biopsy, and treatment may include chemotherapy or supportive care to improve quality of life. Unfortunately in this dogs's case the tumour had already spread extensively - yeilding poor treatment outcome

🐾 Stay alert, stay informed, and always check in with your vet about unusual skin changes.

🔬 Understanding Apocrine Ductal (Basaloid) Adenocarcinoma in Dogs 🐕

This rare type of skin cancer arises from the apocrine sweat glands in your dog’s skin. It’s called basaloid due to the appearance of the tumor cells under a microscope.

🧐 What to look for:
🔹 Firm lumps or nodules on the skin
🔹 Ulcerated or inflamed skin lesions
🔹 Areas that don’t heal or change over time

📍 These tumors can appear anywhere but are often found in areas with high concentrations of sweat glands (like the head, neck, or limbs).

🩺 Diagnosis requires a biopsy and microscopic examination. Treatment usually involves surgical removal, and in some cases, additional therapy like radiation may be needed.

💡 Early detection is key. If you notice an unusual skin mass on your dog, don’t wait—get it checked by your vet.
