‼️📣 *WHAT TO DO IN AN ANIMAL EMERGENCY!* 📣‼️

What do you do if your pet suddenly collapses, or you come across an injured stray? Here are the things to remember in an animal emergency!

1️⃣ ‼️*SAFETY FIRST!* ‼️
- *Always prioritize your OWN SAFETY!*
- Be mindful when rescuing strays, especially in Sarawak where *RABIES IS ENDEMIC.*
- Assume all unknown animals' are *UNVACCINATED.*
- Avoid contact with bodily fluids, *especially saliva* if you have *OPEN WOUNDS.* Even if it's only a small papercut. *WEAR GLOVES IF POSSIBLE.*
- Keep a *SAFE DISTANCE* from aggressive animals.
- Do not put yourself in *DANGEROUS SITUATIONS* to rescue an animal.
- *CALL FOR PROFESSIONAL HELP IF NEEDED.*

2️⃣ *MOVING THE ANIMAL*
- *Precautions:* If the animal is awake, AVOID GETTING BITTEN. Try to MUZZLE the animal or ISOLATE THE HEAD, such as with an e-collar or a towel.
- *Immobile Animals:* If the animal is unconscious or can't move, transport it while SUPPORTING ITS BACK, such as with a flat board or a blanket.

3️⃣ *REMEMBER YOUR ABCs*
- *Airway:* Ensure the airway is CLEAR. Extend the head and neck, wipe away any fluids, and pull the tongue forward if possible.
- *Breathing:* If the animal isn't breathing, circle the muzzle with your hands and BLOW into the NOSE at 15-20 TIMES PER MINUTE.
- *Cardiac Function:* Check for a HEARTBEAT. If there is none, do CHEST COMPRESSIONS at 80-120 TIMES A MINUTE.

4️⃣ *IMMEDIATE INJURIES*
- *Bleeding:* Apply FIRM PRESSURE using a clean cloth. DO NOT USE A TOURNIQUET. If blood seeps through, don't remove the cloth - add more layers instead.
- *External Wounds:* Cover with clean material and focus especially on penetrating wounds to the chest or abdomen.
- *Fractures:* IMMOBILIZE broken limbs with splints (sticks, broom handles, etc.) If splinting is not possible, simply prepare the animal for transport.
- *Burns:* Apply COOL, WET TOWELS over the area.
- *Cold:* If the animal is shivering/in shock, WRAP with BLANKET/COAT/TOWEL.
- *Heat Stroke:* If the animal is overheating, cool it with room temperature damp towels. DO NOT USE COLD WATER, IT CAN CAUSE SHOCK.

5️⃣ *PREPARE FOR TRANSPORT*
- *Call Ahead:* Call the veterinary clinic/hospital so they can prepare for your arrival.
- *Protect Your Vehicle:* Use plastic bags/sheets/towels to minimize mess and contamination.
- *Drive Safely:* Do not turn one accident into two - don't speed, don't be reckless.

Hopefully, you will never have to encounter a situation where you need the above steps. But if you do, STAY CALM, do NOT PANIC, and go through each step carefully. You've got this!

很多主人都会特别为宠物挑选食物、准备营养品，甚至亲自下厨，希望让它们吃得更健康。

另外，不少主人也会用蛋壳、大骨汤帮宠物补钙，或者认为“天然的东西一定比较安全”。甚至近年还有人提倡让猫狗吃纯素或素食，这些说法到底有没有根据？

还有一些人类平时吃的食物或药物，主人可能会觉得“宠物吃一点应该没关系”，但其实有些食物对宠物来说，可能隐藏很大的风险。

到底市面上琳琅满目的宠物食品，该怎么挑选才适合自家毛孩？

你花大錢買高級生食想把主子養得頭好壯壯，
結果卻可能親手餵牠吃下了致命的禽流感病毒，
美國最新爆出的這起連環感染事件，讓全球百萬貓奴全都看傻了眼⋯

最近美國發布了一項震撼獸醫界的研究報告。在洛杉磯地區，從去年 11 月到今年 1 月短短幾個月內，陸續出現了 19 隻有著呼吸困難、肝臟或神經系統嚴重問題的重病貓咪。

這不是普通的傳染病，經過檢測，牠們全都感染了高致死率的 H5N1 禽流感病毒。更讓人心碎的是，這 19 隻貓咪中，有高達 14 隻最終不幸離世或是必須被安樂死。

但最讓公衛專家神經緊繃的，是接下來的追蹤調查。

相關單位火速針對這些貓咪的飼主和接觸者進行了 139 人的大範圍篩檢。結果發現，有一名負責照顧染疫貓咪的無症狀獸醫，竟然在血液中驗出了 H5N1 的感染跡象。雖然這名獸醫在暴露七天後病毒檢測轉為陰性，但這已經是人類史上第一起被記錄下來「由家寵將 H5N1 傳染給人類」的確診案例。

究竟病毒是從哪裡來的？

調查小組比對了這 19 隻染病貓咪的生活習慣，發現了一個讓人背脊發涼的共同點。這 19 隻主子全都吃過市面販售的生乳、生肉或是商業生食寵物餐。

沒錯，許多鏟屎官為了追求更貼近貓咪自然天性、不惜噴掉大把鈔票購買的高級商業生食，竟然成為了這場致命風暴的源頭。

一直以來，生食餵養在毛孩圈都有著熱烈的討論。許多奴才出發點都是為了給主子最好的營養，卻沒想到在產銷環節中，萬一原料遭受病毒污染，未經高溫殺菌的生肉反而成了最可怕的破口。目前衛生單位已經對貓奴們發出強烈呼籲，建議不要餵食寵物未經處理的生乳或生肉食品。
