🟢 Incident Summary – Putra Heights Gas Explosion (Updated 3 April 2025)

According to MBSJ and Selangor State Council:
• 1,254 individuals affected from 308 families
• 630 people (157 families) still residing in Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS)
• 87 homes completely destroyed
• 148 homes damaged
• 85 homes in Taman Harmoni cleared for return
• 2 individuals in ICU
• Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru is still not safe to re-enter

Support in place:
• Temporary housing by Petronas & Airbnb
• Temporary transport assistance (Cherry, Carro, Carsome)
• Education aid by YIDE
• Over 489 frontliners have been mobilised
• Investigations ongoing by PDRM and DOSH

📍 Operational Impact for SPCA Selangor (Animal Relief)

1. Wider Area & More Potential Pet Cases
• With 308 families affected and 87 homes destroyed, the number of pet cases may continue to rise as more owners return or come forward.

2. Prolonged Field Presence
• Based on the councillor’s latest verbal update, no end date is confirmed, but operations may last up to 2 weeks.
• This requires sustained support and structured team rotation to avoid burnout and resource gaps.

3. Continued Need for Shelter & Support
• Since 630 people are still in PPS, many of their pets may still be displaced, unclaimed, or in need of boarding and food support.
• Our planned centralised supply system and mobile support will be crucial for this group.

4. Shifting Focus
• As access to more homes is cleared, our strategy must transition:
• From: Search & Rescue + Emergency Response
• To: Ongoing support, medical care, and supply continuity for pet owners rebuilding their lives

🔜 What We Need to Do Next
• Prepare for extended deployment or redirections to nearby resources
• Scale our animal tracking and foster coordination system
• Begin mapping pets per PPS family, especially for those still unable to return home
• Keep clear records of rescued but unclaimed animals
• Hold coordination with PPS and Majlis to ensure future supply drop-off logistics are integrated with human aid flow

[Rescue Operation Update – Putra Heights]

Today, our team successfully retrieved and they’ve all gone home with their owners:
🐾 12 cats
🐍 2 pet snakes
🐶 1 dog

However, due to late clearance, we could not continue further.
We understand the worry and frustration — please be patient.
Our rescue efforts will continue tomorrow with more volunteers, together with MBSJ and YB Preakas’ office.

Tomorrow (3 April), our active operations will move to:
📍 Kuil Maha Kaliamman, Putra Heights
🕘 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

For affected pet owners, please come to the Kuil to coordinate and assist us in locating your pets.

For all donations of food & supplies, please send them to:

(This is to avoid traffic congestion at ground zero.)

A big thank you to all our volunteers who showed up today at Dewan Camelia, Putra Heights.
We know it may have felt like not much could be done — but your presence, readiness, and willingness to help matters greatly.
Today was about preparing, standing by, and supporting the community in whatever way possible.

To all affected pet owners:
If your pets have been brought out safely, we invite you to come to Dewan Camelia (Seksyen 10).
We have set up a Relief Post with:
• Basic check-up & First Aid for your pets
• Pet food supplies & essentials
All free and provided to support you during this difficult time.

Please drop by if you need assistance for your animals.
No Search & Rescue missions are activated yet — but we are here to support you and your pets.
