1̲0̲ s̲t̲e̲p̲s̲ : H̲A̲M̲S̲T̲E̲R̲ health check up 🐹
Check your hamster health in 10 easy steps.

1. 🏋️ Weighing the weight
▶️ Lost weight of 4-5 grams in 1 week of a hamster weighing 100 grams (>3% of its original weight) is considered abnormal. Keep observing other symptoms.

2. 👁👁 Eye check. Around the eyes.
▶️ Starting from observing the size of the two eyes must be the same size. The eyes are not swollen. No eye holes, tears or blood around the eyes. No eye blinking. Eyes closed or twitching. If there is a contaminant around the eyes, you can use MicrocynAH Spray to clean it. Spray with cotton and then wipe it.

3. 🙉 Checking out the earings.
▶️ No wound, no stain inside the ear. No flesh inside the ear and on the ear.

4. 🤧 Nose check and area around the nose
▶️ No nose stains, blood stains, around the nose, no wounds. If found, use MicrocynAH to clean the stains around the nose and touch the wound.
⚠️ If you don't find a stain on the nose, you may find it around your hamster arms/hand. Because when hamster wipe nose with hands it will leave a stain.

5. 🦷 Teeth and a lip check
▶️ We can only check two front teeth because they don't allow us to see deep into the jaw set.
Start by looking at the upper and lower teeth
Lower teeth have longer gums than upper teeth.
Teeth are always yellow. (In hamsters, first born-3 months, teeth color will look bright, not dark yellow like when they grow up)
Check their lips and inside the mouth. If you find wounds, you can use MicrocynAH to clean, disinfect and also stimulate wound healing. The wound heals faster. It's not bitter. I tried it.

6. 🐹 Skin and core line check
▶️ Reversible hair opening to see skin, wounds and abnormal lumps around the body by applying from head to tail.
⚠️ The most common skin problems are redness, inflammation, sometimes thin hair and hair loss. These can be caused by bacterial infections, fungus, yeast or external parasites. Initially, we can use MicrocynAH Spay to clean and disinfect bacteria, fungus, yeast. Yes, it also helps reduce inflammation in the area. Inflamed skin is part of what makes its hair thinner than normal.

7. 🐾 Nails and 4 feet check
▶️ The length of the nail. If the nail is long enough to poke into the meat, it will cause wounds and hurt the hamster's feet so much that he doesn't want to walk anywhere.
⚠️ If you are not confident, you should take him to the vet instead.
▶️ Check wounds or strange things stuck on the foot. It can probably poke into the skin and make it a bruise.

8. 🍎 Checking out the area around the butt
▶️ Must not find any abnormal secretion around the ge****ls or buttocks.
Female hamsters typically have panic and shaky excrements, have a dark white character, where the unusual speculation can be found in dark white, cream, light pink and red, and are often thick and have an unusual odor. In addition, no unusual wounds or lumps were found. This area can be used MicrocynAH to clean because MicrocynAH contains a substance called Hypochlorus acids, which is commonly found in all animals, so it is safe. As far as I have read, this substance is usually unstable, making it very difficult to preserve, but there is a technology that is patented by USA, the name of Microcyn Technology, helps to stabilize this substance without adding stabilizers such as Sodium Hypochlorite (bleach) with different technologies. Check if they fill these substances. Another benefit is MicrocynAH has a concentrated intensity that of wound cells, allowing it to not interfere with wound healing.

9. 🚽 Check for the excrement and urine
▶️ The f***s must have a lump on the body, not soft or liquid. Dark color to black. No blood mixed. Normal color of urine can be found in bright yellow, dark yellow and dark yellow. If it is abnormal, it may be sticky and thicker than normal. Or if there is blood mixed, it will be colored Light pink or blood mixed
⚠️ should be taken to the vet as soon as possible.

10. Notice the behavior.
▶️ Check appetite by pouring new food or serving snacks.
▶️Check the amount of water drink. Usually a hamster weighs 100 grams will drink about 5-7 ml of water.
▶️Check the environment by re-positioning objects inside the cage. Look at walking out to explore the cage or digging the cage. All in comparison to each individual's normal behavior. Since hamsters have quite different habits, it is recommended to collect information of the moments that are expected to be normal.

All of this is just a preliminary external body check so that we can notice him often because hamsters are animals that undergoes body changes very quickly, such as flesh lump growth. Just a few days, the size can grow 5-10 times bigger than before. Skin wounds can happen oftenly because accidents are unpredictable, so for peace of mind, a bottle of MicrocynAH Spray at home would be a good idea.

‼️ about breeding ‼️

QUALITY BREEEDING VS QUANTITY BREEDING

It's not that breeding is bad. Without breeding, there would be no hamsters. However, we believe that breeding is something that needs to be taken very seriously, and we want our forum values to reflect that.

It takes a very particular set of skills and knowledge to responsibly breed hamsters. It is not something the average hamster owner should be attempting. To responsibly breed hamsters, a person MUST have ALL of the following traits:

‼️An extremely strong understanding of hamster husbandry (behavior, diet, health)

A person should be a hamster expert before even attempting to breed. This means being very comfortable with all aspects of hamster care. They need to understand what kinds of behavior are and are not normal, because this will help them to recognize a sick animal. They need to have an excellent understanding of diet and nutrition, as these topics are very important for pregnant and nursing mothers. They must be comfortable with difficult aspects of hamster care - handling skittish / aggressive hamsters, scruffing, trimming nails, checking teeth, giving medicine, and other such tasks.

‼️A strong understanding of genetics (both basic genetics and hamster-specific genetics)

Genetics are critical to breeding. Responsible breeders breed with the aim of bettering the species and producing healthy, hearty animals. You have to understand what types of crosses are dangerous or inadvisable and identify individuals that shouldn't be bred. For example, breeding two hamsters with the "white bellied" gene can result in pups known as anophthalmic whites. (Note that a hamster can have this gene without physically having a white belly). These pups are born with no eyes, and often have other significant health issues and reduced lifespans. And that's just one example of what can go wrong. Breeding without thought to genetics is careless, irresponsible, and selfish.

‼️The ability to get quality stock animals from a reputable hamster breeder

This goes along with genetics. Hamsters from pet shops or rescues should generally not be bred, because they come from unknown lineages. There is no way of knowing if that hamster has some underlying genetic issue it could pass onto its offspring. Reputable breeders often travel for hours to get quality stock animals from other breeders. Not willing to put in that kind of effort? Reconsider breeding.

‼️A reliable source of income

Keeping hamsters costs money. Breeding costs even more, because by default there will be more hamsters produced. A breeder also need to be prepared to keep pups in the event they cannot find homes for them. That means having multiple cages, wheels, and other equipment. Breeding isn't something that's going to be manageable on an allowance or even a very limited part-time job.
