Latest update on the distemper outbreak

We had 3 infected dogs, the first discovered case was sent to Putra Heights Vet. The remaining 2 was treated in our house since no vet could accept.

Blackie was admitted the one admitted in Putra Heights Vet she was getting better after a week but passed away. On the same day we also lost another distemper dog named Titu. Brownie is the only remaining from the batch. So far the situation at the shelter is under control. We need to continue monitoring for another month. No new dogs will be taken in.

An unwanted incident happened at our shelter yesterday. We lost KADHAMBARI to a snake bite. The snake enter the next room and it got killed too. The who incident happen when the workers were preparing food for the shelter at the down hill part of the shelter. When the workers heard the non stop barking, one of them ran up to the shelter to check and saw the snake in the next room killed.

We buried KADHAMBARI at the shelter and said good bye to her.

Urgent appeal for Blackie's vet bill.

We have recently posted about the distemper outbreak at our Langat shelter, As of today, we have 3 cases, 2 is recovering well with the 3rd one needing to be admitted qs soon as we can. It is only possible to admit the 3rd one upon settling the bill for Blackie who is currenrly admitted in Putra Heights vet.

We are seeking your kind help to settle our bill so that we can admit Blackie's sibling without further delay.

Just 2 days ago, we managed to collect 10 bags of kibbles and a crate of canned food. Sadly, those 10 bags have already finished this morning, and we now have no food left for our dogs from this evening onwards.

At MAWA, we believe we are not the caretakers of our dogs — we are their employees, serving them with devotion and love. Every wag of their tails, every look in their eyes reminds us that they depend on us completely. That is why Anu and I choose to be hands-on in everything we do. We guide our helpers gently, because caring for a soul requires patience, kindness, and heart.

Anu visits the shelter every single day, especially to sit with the sick ones — the ones who wait quietly, hoping someone will notice their pain. We involve our children too, teaching them to feed, bathe, and simply be with the dogs, so they grow up knowing compassion and valuing every living being.

Each weekend at MAWA is not just work — it’s healing. When you volunteer, you’ll realize that while you give them food and care, they give you something far greater — unconditional love, joy, and the feeling of being truly needed. ❤️

The more we say we can’t take in any more, the more we come across dogs and puppies in need of shelter.

This little pup was found sitting right in front of Speedmart, wagging her tail at everyone who passed by. All she hoped for was a little food. Sadly, people were kicking her and splashing water to chase her away. I couldn’t leave her there, so I picked her up and brought her back to our shelter.

She’s about 2–3 months old, very friendly, and absolutely loves children. ❤️

This is kuttyma @ kuchima. She is about 14 years old. Last 2 weeks she became complete bedridden. Vet said her urea level is extremely high. We are currently force feeding and subcut.

Kuchima was rescued from a dog heater house 14 years ago at balakong. We used to call her circus girl because she used to jump gates and once she got her belly pierced.

She was came to us before our elder one was born. Been apart of us from the day mawa started. A very disciplined girl. She does her job outside the house or in the restroom. Even now when she is not well, she will make noise to bring her out.

Please keep her in your prayers.
