About 10 days after Momo’s castration, Momo developed swelling and bruising around his sc***um and lower abdomen.
At first, we thought it could be a hematoma - basically, blood collecting under the skin, which can happen after surgery.
However, Momo was also vomiting at home, and the swelling and bruising were getting worse. So we decided to investigate further.
It turned out that Momo had a weak area in the muscles around his groin, causing inguinal hernia that had progressed into a scrotal hernia. In simple terms, part of Momo’s intestine had slipped through a weak opening in the groin and travelled down into his sc***um.
During surgery, the intestine didn’t look very healthy, but thankfully it was still alive and had blood supply.
⚠️ Any further delay could have caused the intestine to lose its blood supply and die, which would have been a life-threatening emergency.
Thankfully, it was caught in time. The intestine was returned to its normal position and the hernia was repaired.
Momo has now recovered well and is back to his happy, normal self. ❤️🐶
📌 This is a good reminder that while some swelling after surgery can be normal, swelling that gets bigger, worse, or is accompanied by other signs should always be checked.
