Following our previous post, we’d like to share another case of aural hematoma (𝘣𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘥-𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘱) in a dog.

Toto is a Labrador with a history of chronic skin fungal infection and persistent itching. This ongoing skin condition led to frequent head shaking and scratching, which eventually caused trauma to the ear flap and resulted in the development of an aural hematoma.

The surgical treatment involves placing multiple tacking sutures to eliminate the dead space between the ear flap, allowing the tissues to heal closely together. This helps prevent re-accumulation of blood, reduces pain and swelling, and lowers the risk of permanent ear deformity.

🚨 Most importantly, long-term management of the underlying skin condition is essential to prevent recurrence.

Bet Bet came to us after suddenly developing a swollen ear. After examination, the conditon was identified as an aural hematoma, whereby blood accumulates within the ear flap due to ruptured blood vessels.

In Bet Bet’s case, the underlying issue was ear mites. The irritation and itchiness caused constant head shaking and ear flapping, eventually leading to bleeding inside the ear pinna.

Surgery was carried out to place buttons along the ear flap to help apply pressure and minimise the space where fluid could re-accumulate. Bet Bet also had dental scaling at the same time. 🦷

Two weeks later, Bet Bet returned for suture removal, and the healing process looked very good. (Thank you to owner for taking good care of the surgical site too! 🫶🏻)

📌 NOTE:
• Although aural hematoma is not usually life-threatening, untreated cases can result in permanent thickening and crumpling of the ear.

• Regular ear care and consistent parasite prevention are important to reduce the risk of recurrence, especially in dogs with floppy ears.

Choco, a senior female Boxer, was presented with a large mass on her flank and another growth on her forelimb digit. The digital lesion had already ruptured, resulting in a severe open wound with maggots.

Due to the location and limited skin availability on the digit, surgical digit amputation was performed to fully remove the affected tissue.

At the same time, a large flank mass measuring approximately 14 cm and weighing close to 1 kg was excised.

Recovery was uneventful, and Choco was discharged a week later in good condition. She is now comfortable and back to her normal routine.

The excised masses were not submitted for histopathology, so the exact diagnosis remains unknown. However, the primary goal of surgery was achieved—removal of diseased tissue and improvement of quality of life. We hope she continues to do well in the years ahead. 🤎

Hello, my name is Orange 🍊

I was rescued by a kind Yemeni man after he found me with a severe eye injury. The next day, my eye actually popped out. Surgery was the only way to stop the pain and infection, and to give me a chance to live more comfortably.

The person who rescued me could not afford the surgery, so kind people donated to help me get my second chance in life.

During the surgery, my heart suddenly stopped. But against all odds, I came back again. What felt like the end became another beginning. It was my third chance.

Now, I only have one eye, and I may not be able to survive if I go back to the streets again. I hope someone will give me a fourth chance - a safe home, a warm bed, and a new life.

“Never give up” will be my slogan from now on, because sometimes surviving, is a decision made moment by moment. 🧡

Mun Mun, a senior cat, came to us suffering from severe dental pain, which had also led to secondary bacterial infection affecting the nasal passages, causing flu-like symptoms.

We proceeded with a full dental extraction to remove all the rotten and infected teeth. Not long after the procedure, she became much more comfortable and started eating again.

For cats, having no teeth is often far better than living with painful, rotten teeth. Bad dental disease can continuously trigger bacterial infections, inflammation, chronic pain, and greatly affect their quality of life.

Cats are also masters at hiding pain. Instead of obvious crying or discomfort, they often only show subtle signs such as reduced appetite, weight loss, drooling, bad breath, hiding, or becoming quieter than usual.

Regular dental checks are extremely important, especially for senior cats. A healthy mouth can truly change their comfort, appetite, and overall wellbeing. 🦷

ORS happens when a tiny piece of ovarian tissue is left behind during surgery. Even a very small remnant can continue to produce hormones, leading to behaviors like calling, restlessness, and repeated “heat” cycles.

Tian Tian had her spay surgery done half a year ago at another clinic, but had been howling, especially at night, affecting her owner’s sleep. After identifying and removing the remaining ovarian tissue, we’re glad to share that Tian Tian is finally no longer vocalizing at home and is much more comfortable.

Diagnosis isn’t always straightforward - ultrasound can help, but very small remnants can still be missed, especially if the pet is not actively in heat.

If your pet seems to be “in heat” despite being spayed, don’t ignore it. A proper check-up can help confirm the cause and guide the next step.
