🚨❗The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified anthrax as a new infectious disease with the potential for global impact, originating in Zambia and spreading to Europe, resulting in four fatalities.

As of November 20, Zambia has reported 684 cases, with a high mortality rate in the epicenter, Sinazongwe. The WHO warns of continued risks in 10 African countries and potential outbreaks in neighboring nations due to human and animal movement.

Anthrax, a zoonotic disease, has three types of infection, with symptoms ranging from skin lesions to severe respiratory and gastrointestinal complications. The virus's potential spread through animal carcasses in rivers and lakes raises concerns for further transmission.

🚨Pertussis Outbreak: Threefold Increase in the UK❗️
Globally, not only in the UK but also in other countries, there are reports of an increase in cases of whooping cough.

In recent months, the Pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak has surged in the United Kingdom, with 716 confirmed cases reported from July to November, tripling the figures from the same period in the previous year, marking a 250% annual increase. Pertussis poses a significant threat to infants, and its spread has been mitigated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts are urging pregnant women to get vaccinated to protect newborns.

Pertussis, caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, is an acute bacterial infection primarily transmitted through respiratory droplets, posing heightened risks to children, particularly infants under 6 months. Symptoms resemble those of a common cold, with coughing lasting for weeks to months, potentially leading to severe complications such as respiratory distress, dehydration, and pneumonia.

The pertussis outbreak is not confined to the UK; several countries globally, including Denmark, Canada, and the United States, are reporting an increase in pertussis cases. In Asia, South Korea, the Philippines, and Malaysia have also witnessed a surge. Malaysia reported 329 cases by August 19, resulting in 23 deaths, with authorities attributing some cases to the relaxation of pandemic-related restrictions.
