😺✨ 4 Ways to Prevent Tapeworms in Cats ✨😺

Tapeworms are more common than we think, but the good news is that preventing them is simple with a few consistent habits:

1. Keep Fleas Under Control
Fleas are the most common way cats get tapeworms. Use monthly flea treatments and keep your home clean by vacuuming regularly and washing your cat’s bedding.

2. Deworm Regularly
Talk to your vet about a deworming schedule. Even indoor cats can be at risk, so regular prevention helps keep them safe.

3. Prevent Hunting
Cats can get tapeworms by eating infected rodents. If your cat goes outdoors, try to limit hunting or keep them in a protected area.

4. Maintain a Clean Environment
Scoop the litter box daily, clean their sleeping areas, and keep their environment tidy to reduce the chance of reinfection.

✨ With these four simple steps, you can help keep your cat healthy, comfortable, and tapeworm-free!

🐾 Is Your Dog Scratching Too Much? Here Are 6 Warning Signs

Itchy skin in dogs isn’t just annoying—it can be a sign of a deeper issue. According to AniViva, here are 6 alarming symptoms you should never ignore:

Constant scratching, licking or biting — Excessive itchiness can damage the skin barrier.

Hair loss or bald patches — Can indicate allergy, parasites, or other skin disorders.

Red, inflamed or scaly skin — Could be a sign of irritation, infection or dermatitis.

Hot spots or sores — Self-inflicted wounds from scratching or chewing.

Recurring ear problems — Itchy ears, head shaking, or discharge are common in allergic dogs.

Unpleasant odor — Often a result of secondary bacterial or yeast infections.

✅ If you spot these signs, it’s time to talk to the vet — your dog might need more than just a soothing shampoo.

🐱🛁 Do Cats Really Need a Bath? Here’s Your 8-Step Guide

Bathing a cat isn’t always necessary — but when it is, doing it right matters. According to AniViva, here are 8 essential steps to make bath time as safe and stress-free as possible:

Prepare everything first — Use a cat-safe shampoo, towels, a non-slip mat, and a cup or pitcher for rinsing.

Brush before you wet — Remove tangles and loose fur so shampoo works better.

Use lukewarm water — Not too hot — to keep your cat comfortable and safe.

Wet carefully — Avoid splashing near the face; start from the neck down.

Lather gently — Massage the shampoo in gently, focusing on dirty or greasy areas.

Rinse thoroughly — Make sure all the shampoo is gone so their skin won’t get irritated.

Dry properly — Towel dry first, and only use a hairdryer on very low heat if your cat tolerates it.

Reward and calm — Give treats, praise or playtime after the bath to help them associate it with something positive.

💡 Bonus tip: Only bathe your cat when it's really needed — over-bathing can strip their skin of natural oils.

Do cats need baths? The short answer is sometimes. Efficient cats can groom without assistance, but occasional support helps prevent skin infections.

Thanksgiving is almost here, and we know how tempting it can be to share a little bit of your big holiday meal with your pets. 🩵 But not all the foods we enjoy are safe for them.

Some of our favorite Thanksgiving staples can make animals very sick so please help keep your furry family members safe by sticking to pet approved treats only. 🥕

What sweet Stacee pictured here would really love for the holiday is a home of her very own. 🙏 She does not need leftovers she just wants a cozy bed some love and maybe a bone or two. ❤️‍🩹 Stacee is three years old, and she would be so thankful to spend the season with a family who cares about her.

The shelter will be closed on Thursday November 27 for Thanksgiving and will reopen Friday at 11 am for our Black Furrday event! 🖤

🐶✨ 6 Simple Steps to Groom Your Dog at Home

Taking care of your pup goes beyond cuddles — grooming is a powerful way to keep them healthy, comfortable, and looking their best. Here are 6 easy steps you can do at home:

Brush regularly — Remove tangles and loose fur to prevent matting and keep their coat shiny.

Give a gentle bath — Use a dog-safe shampoo and lukewarm water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly.

Dry carefully — Pat dry with a towel, or use a dryer on a low heat setting when needed.

Trim the nails — Use a proper clipper/grinder, and avoid cutting the quick. Go slow and stay calm.

Clean the ears — Use a vet-approved ear cleaner and cotton balls. Never insert objects deep into the ear.

Brush their teeth — Dental care is part of grooming. Use a dog-safe toothbrush + toothpaste to keep their smile healthy.

Pro tip: Have all your tools ready before you start. It makes the process smoother and helps your dog stay calm.

Regular grooming isn’t just about looks — it’s about building trust, catching skin issues early, and creating bonding moments. 💖

🐶🌊 Beach Day with Your Dog? Here’s How to Make It Safe & Fun

Heading to the beach with your furry friend? AniViva has four smart tips to ensure your dog has a blast and stays safe:

Pack the essentials — Bring fresh water, a bowl, shade, and dog-safe sunscreen. ☀️

Watch the heat — Sand and sun can get really hot. Stick to early morning or late afternoon, and make sure your pup has a shady spot to rest.

Supervise water time — Not all dogs are natural swimmers. Use a life vest if needed and stay close to them when they’re in the waves.

Rinse after play — Saltwater and sand can irritate their skin. Give them a fresh water rinse when you're done, and check their paws for hot or rough spots.
