This dog. This video. https://bit.ly/3nQFAZC Watch it and be inspired and awed. (Kleenex warning, but happy ending!) Kuno recently received the esteemed Dickin Medal from the PDSA, following in the brave footsteps our beloved Lucca K458 four years earlier.
In 2019, Kuno was deployed as a Canine Protection and Detection dog in direct support of specialist UK and host nation forces. Despite the mountainous, unforgiving and dangerous areas Kuno and his human colleagues found themselves in, he successfully conducted 16 operations over a 5-month period.
Kuno’s role was to detect explosives, find hidden weapons and incapacitate the enemy if ordered to do so. His team felt safe following wherever Kuno led them.
In May 2019, Kuno was deployed on another operation which would change his life. Read more about Kuno here on his page at PDSA's site. https://www.pdsa.org.uk/what-we-do/animal-awards-programme/pdsa-dickin-medal/kuno
I'm sure that if Lucca and Kuno were deployed together, they'd have been fast friends. Maybe even boyfriend and girlfriend, knowing Mama Lucca's penchant for handsome heroes! She would be proud to know that has received this honor -- the highest in the world for military dogs.
We salute you, Kuno.
