With her striking coat, soulful eyes, and natural “eyeliner” markings, Kitty is absolutely unforgettable. She is still growing, and those adorable, oversized paws say she might have a bit more growing to do!

Kitty has the perfect balance of classic puppy energy and a calm, gentle soul. She loves to explore, but she also settles down easily for quiet time and cuddles.

🐾Franny is on the move......✈️

Another departure today - this is Franny Freedom Flight. She is headed to her new forever home in Canada. Unfortunately, there was a hick-up in her paperwork that required a lot of last minute maneuvering to ensure Franny made her flight. We were not let down by our amazing volunteer who sprung into immediate action to ensure the proper paperwork made it to the airport in the nick of time! They worked closely with the airline to be sure Franny made the flight. We could not have done this without them. THANK YOU!

Miela is a beautiful mix of confidence and kindness — gentle, affectionate, and smart. She’s learning fast in both English and Spanish, already mastering sit and down, and working on stay and off.

She loves fetch, toys, bones, and quiet chew time (yes, she’s a bone burier — but always remembers where!). She’s great on car rides and loves being close to her people. Miela thrived in foster care but is now waiting at the rescue for her forever home.

🐾Meet Tank – Goofy, Playful, and Full of Heart 🐾

This black-and-tan cutie has a big personality, a goofy streak a mile wide, and a heart that’s just as big. Tank just turned 1 year old and is 38lbs. He will be a true medium sized dog.

He loves to play, explore everything, and make the most of every moment—whether he’s splashing in the kiddie pool, wrestling with a toy, or shadowing you around just to be part of the fun. Beneath all that energy, though, is a sweet, affectionate boy who just wants to belong.

Tank is a great outdoor enthusiast and he'll make a wonderful outdoor companion as well as be a true snuggle buddy at the end of the day.

We have so many incredible pups ready to meet you. Whether you’re looking for a playful adventurer or a mellow companion, our dogs are known for being friendly, social, and often even cat-friendly! Our dogs have been very well socialized, taught some basic commands and even have had leash training.

🐾Two more departures! ✈️ Mayah and Johnny Cash are on their way home.

We have two more lucky travelers to celebrate today! The energy at the rescue is so high as we watch these two head off toward their new beginnings.

Mayah began her long journey to Ottawa, Canada, earlier today. Following in the paw-steps of our Sunday traveler, she’s flying through Vancouver for an overnight stay with our favorite host, fellow rescue alum Minion. From there, she’ll catch a red-eye to Ottawa tomorrow evening. We have no doubt she’ll handle the trip like a pro—she has such an incredible home waiting to welcome her at the finish line.

Johnny Cash is also on the move, heading to Vancouver! He is a very special boy who was lucky enough to be welcomed into a foster home in Canada. We will be posting Johnny Cash on some Canadian FB pages coming up. Please let your friends, family and colleagues know he is looking for a forever home.

Our hearts are so full, but we know these happy endings don't happen by accident. To the Cortez Rescue and Outreach staff, our wonderful veterinarian, our volunteers, drivers, flight angels and fosters: THANK YOU.

From the Roadside to a Forever Home: Henry’s Journey 🐾

They say it takes a village, but at Cortez Rescue and Outreach, it takes a dedicated community of hearts. This past Sunday kicked off a busy week of travel for some very lucky pups, including a boy who truly beat the odds: Henry.

A Second Chance Against the Odds

Many of you remember Henry’s story. He was found starving on the side of the road in Los Barriles at a time when our rescue was at absolute capacity. We were faced with a heartbreaking reality: we had no room, yet we couldn't turn him away.

Because of our incredible volunteers, we didn't have to. Henry was welcomed into a foster home where he was nursed back to health, gaining the strength needed for two essential surgeries. From being a skeleton on the shoulder of the road to being fully vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for the world, Henry has shown us what resilience looks like.

The Long Road Home ✈️

Henry began his trek to Canada on Sunday, flying to the West Coast first before making his way East. He traveled like a total trooper and even enjoyed a "layover" with a fellow Cortez alum, Minion!

With Gratitude

This transformation simply couldn't happen without the people behind the scenes. To the volunteers who opened their doors, our dedicated veterinary team, our tireless staff, and the wonderful family waiting to welcome him home—thank you.

We say "thank you" often, and it might feel repetitive, but in rescue, those words carry the weight of a life saved. We could never do this without our supporters and followers.

🐾 Meet Fleur – Tan Beauty with a Bright Spirit

Fleur is a gorgeous tan girl rescued as a young puppy along with her siblings, and she’s grown into a confident, playful, and affectionate pup. She’s alert, curious, and loves being part of whatever’s going on around her. Fleur walks well on leash, enjoys human attention, and has a friendly, easy going personality. She loves chasing butterflies or shadows - she really entertains herself so sweetly.

Fleur is 14 months old and 38 lbs. She is the perfect sized medium doggie. She has been fortunate enough to be in foster for the last couple of months. She's friendly with people, other dogs and even some cats. She is house trained and very well mannered. She has a really joyful spirit and is looking for a home to match her.
