𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: 𝟲𝟮% 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱! 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀!
Archis is recovering nicely. We will continue to update.

Little Archie came into our care on February 18, 2026. He was underweight, had low platelets, tested positive for heartworm, and was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia. We knew he would eventually need surgery to repair the hernia, but first we had to wait for his blood levels to stabilize.
🤍
Recently, Archie’s breathing became much worse. He struggled to breathe whenever he laid down, making it impossible for him to rest comfortably or sleep. Thankfully, his bloodwork had finally improved enough for surgery to move forward.

A diaphragmatic hernia is a life-threatening condition where a tear in the diaphragm allows abdominal organs to move into the chest cavity, putting dangerous pressure on the lungs and making it difficult to breathe. Surgery involves moving the organs back into place and repairing the diaphragm. In most cases this is caused by trauma, though in rare situations dogs can be born with it.
🤍
On April 30th, Archie underwent successful surgery! He remained hospitalized until Monday and is now back with us recovering. Only one veterinarian in Puerto Vallarta is able to perform this type of surgery, so unfortunately, we had no alternative when it came to the cost.
The invoice for Archie’s surgery came to just under $13,000 pesos, plus an additional $5,000 deposit required at the time of scheduling (not shown on invoice), bringing the total cost to approximately $18,000 pesos.
**see comments for before/after videos**
🤍
It’s a difficult way to begin low season with such a major medical expense, but this surgery was absolutely necessary to save Archie’s life.

We are asking for your support to help offset some of these costs as we head into summer without fundraising events. Archie will continue recovering in our care and, once he is fully healed, he will begin treatment for his heartworm.

🐾 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝘇𝘇
This adorable pup was found on the streets of Mexico after being stung by a bee. A shelter employee discovered him swollen and rushed to get him help. With proper care, Buzz is now recovering at the shelter and beginning his vetting protocols. He is approximately 4.5 months old. He is a silly sweet guy, and we are happy to welcome this ray of sunshine into our pack at Puppyland.

He’s not quite ready for adoption yet, but we’ll share updates as soon as he is. Stay tuned—Buzz’s journey is just beginning! 💛

🌞 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝘁!! 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝘀!

Our solar panels are a lifeline that lowers our electricity costs, which are otherwise ENORMOUS for a shelter caring for over 140 dogs every day. Two inverters have failed, and repairs cost $21,091 pesos. 💛 Please donate today to help keep the shelter running sustainably!

We held a small, last-minute clinic at the shelter this morning ✂️😷

Thanks to Dr. Poli and Co**ha, 5 dogs were spayed and neutered — including our current community TVT dog, Zira 🐾
We also completed 5 dental cleanings. A few of these pups are pending adoption, so getting this done quickly was so important!

The total cost of today’s clinic came to $6,000 pesos. This wasn’t planned, but it was absolutely needed. We’re now hoping to raise donations to help cover the expense.

If you’d like to contribute or sponsor the clinic in full, you can donate here: ⬇️

Every peso/dollar makes a difference! Thank you for supporting the dogs in our care 💜🧡💛

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲? We can’t, but sadly, we know it still happens, all over the world. And this is exactly what happened to one of our most recent rescues.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗮 🧡
On April 10, one of our employees, Fer, spotted Cinna tied up at a roadside dumping site. A stretch of road where people carelessly throw their trash. It’s heartbreakingly close to our shelter. As he passed by, he saw her tied to a tree with a red rope. Left there. Alone.

Cinna is estimated to be around 5 years old. Her first week with us, she was terrified and stayed in her kennel. She came across as aggressive but it was clear she was just scared and trying to protect herself.
Now, she’s out with the other dogs and beginning to show her true, happy personality. 🐾

She’s extremely underweight and tested positive for ehrlichia, with dangerously low platelets (just 5) and anemia. Despite everything, she’s already spayed (evidenced by a tattoo on her belly), meaning someone once cared for her… and then chose to walk away.

With all the cases we see, we still cannot understand how someone could abandon a dog like this. In the middle of nowhere. Tied up beside garbage. There are no excuses. The indifference is truly mind-blowing. 🤯

But Cinna is safe now. She’s started her vetting protocols and is receiving the care she desperately needs. Her new life has officially begun, and we can’t wait to watch her glow up🧡✨
