In his spare time, Kevin likes to spend time with his family and enjoys long walks in the countryside taking pictures and also the occasional spot of coastal fishing.

Experienced Veterinary Nurse Required – Urgent

Pets Veterinary Clinic (Żabbar) – Malta’s only dedicated Orthopaedic Speciality Veterinary Clinic – is currently facing an immediate staffing challenge.

We are seeking a skilled full-time Veterinary Nurse to join the team led by Dr Kevin Camilleri.

Due to the recent resignation of our senior nurse, we risk having to reduce services or temporarily suspend operations unless we secure the right candidate promptly.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work in Malta’s premier orthopaedic veterinary practice, with exposure to advanced surgical cases including complex fracture repairs, joint procedures, and specialist orthopaedic care not available in general practice clinics.

What we offer:

**Fred’s Limb Salvage Story** 🐾❤️

Meet Fred, a gentle 44 kg Labrador who suffered a devastating injury to his right wrist. The damage to the supporting structure (palmar fibrocartilage) is unfortunately irreparable in dogs and will cause the wrist to collapse (hyperextend) with each and every step.

Without intervention, Fred would have been left unable to bear weight on the limb, facing a future of severe osteoarthritis and chronic pain that would have dramatically affected his quality of life.

The only option to save his limb and give him a good quality of life was a **pancarpal arthrodesis** — a specialised limb-salvage surgery that fuses the joints in the wrist.

During the procedure, the joint was opened, the damaged cartilage removed and replaced with bone graft to encourage fusion. Due to his size and energy, Dr. Kevin applied 2 plates in opposite directions to stabilise the area while the bones healed together. It’s a very complex surgery, but it offered Fred the best chance for pain-free function.

Fred was closely monitored for the next 8 weeks, and we are delighted to report that the surgery was **100% successful**!

He has regained almost complete use of his limb and is now moving comfortably again.

Fly’s Complex Fracture 🐶🦴✨

Today we’re thrilled to share the incredible recovery story of Fly, our majestic 35kg Weimaraner who faced a serious challenge! 💪

Fly sustained a long oblique fracture of the distal tibia — a particularly tricky injury due to its location and limited bone stock for repair.

On top of that, this energetic, super-active boy puts massive loads on his leg, so the repair had to be incredibly strong and stable.

Dr Kevin rose to the occasion brilliantly, using every advanced technique in the book (and then some!) to create a rock-solid construct. 🛠️

After just 5 weeks of careful recovery, we’re over the moon to announce that Fly has made a complete recovery and regained 100% limb function! 🎉❤️

This legend is now back to his old self — ready for a fresh chapter filled with mischief, zoomies, and endless adventures! 🏃‍♂️🌲

A Wonderful Week at the Clinic

This week we had the honour and pleasure of hosting Dr. Andrzej Małkowski, DVM, GPAdvCert (SAOS), and his daughter Dr. Carol Małkowska, DVM, at our clinic.
It was a truly delightful experience to work together, perform complex orthopedic procedures, and share knowledge and expertise. Moments like these remind us how valuable international collaboration and mentorship are in veterinary medicine.

Led by Dr Kevin Camilleri (RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Surgery), we offer everything from routine wellness care and nurse-led clinics to advanced orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgery in modern, well-equipped facilities.

Key Responsibilities
• Assist in all surgical procedures – pre-operative preparation, theatre nursing, anaesthesia monitoring, and post-operative recovery and intensive care 🐾
• Provide compassionate in-patient and out-patient nursing, including wound management, medication administration, and diagnostic support ❤️
• Support veterinarians during consultations, emergencies, and advanced procedures
• Maintain exceptional standards of hygiene, sterilisation, and infection control
• Conduct nurse clinics, client education, and inventory management
• Accurate record-keeping and contribution to a positive team environment

Requirements
• Qualified Veterinary Nurse (MCAST Diploma/Degree in Veterinary Nursing or recognised equivalent)
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in surgical nursing (theatre, anaesthesia, and post-op care)
• Confident animal handling across all sizes and temperaments 🐕🐱
• Excellent communication skills in both Maltese and English
• Team player who is reliable, compassionate, and able to work flexible hours (including some weekends and on-call)
• Full driving licence is an advantage 🚗
