The shelter can be a stressful place, and moving into a new home is a big adjustment for a dog or cat. That’s why we encourage adopters to keep the 3-3-3 Rule in mind:

🛑 First 3 days: Your pet may feel anxious or overwhelmed. Keep a routine, give them space, and let them decompress. Don’t be discouraged if they seem shy or nervous...it’s totally normal.
💛 First 3 weeks: They’ll start to settle in and show more of their personality. Set boundaries, focus on bonding, and celebrate small wins.
✅ First 3 months: Trust grows, routines stick, and your pet truly feels at home. Gently introduce them to new people and places to boost their confidence and deepen your bond.

Every pet adjusts at their own pace, but remembering the 3-3-3 rule helps set realistic expectations, build trust, and create a foundation for a happy, lifelong relationship. Be patient and give your new family member the gift of time. It’s worth it!
