🌟 Retraining the French Trotter – A Journey of Patience, Partnership, and Possibility 🌟
Who owns an ex racing trotter, knows the challenges that come with it when retraining them, especially when it comes to cantering.
Their natural build and movement, which is typically suited to sulky racing rather than ridden disciplines make it more challenging than any other type of horse.
But as this video beautifully demonstrates, difficult doesn't mean impossible.
This clip captures a Preliminary Dressage Test performed by our trainer Gina and her very own French trotter. What makes this moment so special is not just the test itself, but the years of commitment, trust-building, and consistent, patient training that led up to it.
This retraining journey began when V was already 15 years old—an age when many horses are well into their established routines. Yet with time, the right approach, and a lot of heart, he adapted to his new role. In this video, he is 21 years old—proof that with the proper guidance and a strong partnership, even horses with a background far removed from the sport horse world can achieve great things under saddle.
Gina and V placed 6th out of a class of 25 riders against warmblood sport horses with a score of 66.82%
💬 Let this be a message to anyone retraining or rehabilitating a horse: never underestimate the power of patience and determination.
