Barbary Macaque Awareness & Conservation

Barbary Macaque Awareness & Conservation La seule association marocaine de protection du singe Magot. The only Moroccan Association working to protect the Endangered Barbary macaque.

BMAC uses both social and natural science research techniques to develop and apply practical conservation and development strategies. The majority of these strategies involve awareness raising both locally and nationally to foster an intrinsic rather than an economic value for these unique primates and thus eradicate the demand for the species by the illegal pet trade. Capacity building in areas of macaque habitat is also key in providing alternative livelihood strategies and reducing the financial necessity of capturing infant macaques from the wild.

Lots of macaque fun and information sharing over the last week by the BMAC team for International Macaque Week. We were very pleased to talk to an audience at the National School of Forestry Engineers in Sale Rabat. These individuals see the illegal trade in Barbary macaques and other wildlife firsthand so were very keen to sign the pledge against monkey pet keeping. We also had lots of people signing our pledge to never keep a monkey as a pet at the RifCom Football Tournament. Many thanks to all involved for their support.

It's International Macaque Week!!!. Here are some lovely pics of Barbary macaques in Bouhachem forest, Morocco.

We'd like to thank everyone at Gaia Zoo and Gaia Nature Fund in the Netherlands for funding very necessary and urgent repairs to our precious Monkey Bus. It's not a very exciting thing to fund but without our Monkey Bus we couldn't protect Barbary macaques! Thank you very much https://www.gaiazoo.nl/ and Gaia nature fund!

Louisa has been a long-term supporter of BMAC. With her friend, Sarah Burge, they brought much needed transport crates to help us with macaque confiscations. Now she is challenging herself to trek to Everest Base Camp and raising money for BMAC at the same time. Thank you to Louisa and Michelle and best of luck!
