😇We had to share this incredible post by Recipient Robert. Please note that Recipients are not always able to let their dogs be petted or interacted with, but on this occasion, he was able to change lives, if only for a few moments. Here's his post:
“Today was very long, but so many people were touched by how awesome our dogs are.
We were in a part of the hospital specializing in orthopedic surgery, so most surgeries were emergencies. One woman was involved in a horrible accident where she was t-boned, & the accident crushed her left femur & forearm.
She was in the prep area next to us, crying in pain. She noticed Sirius’ tail under the curtain, stopped crying & asked if she could please pet her. Of course, I said yes. Sirius walked over, sniffing & put her head down next to the leg that was crushed& let out a small whimper, then went up near her head & started licking her & wagging her tail. The lady started crying again, so I called her back. The lady said “No-these are happy tears! This is the best I have felt all day! So for just a moment, Sirius made her pain go away & all she felt was loved. Made me & 4 nurses cry.
Then, after Sarah was taken into the OR, we were guided to the waiting area when we passed a teen girl on a stretcher.
Sirius & Hero pulled me over to her so they could see her, then gave her kisses & showed her some love. The mom thanked me & went on her way. Later in the waiting area, the girls’ mom thanked me for letting my dogs come to her daughter. She had just told her mom that she didn't want to live if they couldn't fix her leg. (she was in a roll-over accident, ejected from the car, landing on her leg). But after Hero &Sirius interacted with her, she changed her mind & wants to get a dog now. It's amazing how just a minute can change the outcome of someone's life. It only takes a second to change a persons thoughts
Be mindful & kind-you never know what the person next to you is going through”
