Have you ever wanted to name a rare plant? Now is your chance! We are launching a brand new series where we showcase a spectacular species or unique cross, and YOU get to name it.

For Episode 1, we are looking at the breathtaking Nepenthes hamata - Lumut (BE-3380). If you know carnivorous plants, you know this one is legendary for its jagged, vicious-looking teeth and stunning dark pitchers. It looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie! 🛸🌱

This Nepenthes barcelonae (BE-3770) decided to do something a bit out of the ordinary 🌱

In this video, Rob takes a closer look at fasciation — a rare growth abnormality where a stem flattens and widens instead of growing normally. It’s something you don’t often see in Nepenthes, especially in a seed-grown plant.

We look at what’s happening, what might have caused it, and what it means for the plant going forward. There’s also an attempt planned to take cuttings from the fasciated growth — with no promises, but plenty of curiosity.
