Good afternoon! We are MAMA MAGELLAN & THE EXPLORER BABIES! So I definitely have an "explorer" side to me, being a single mama that found herself pregnant and all alone in the world. I had to seek out a safe place to have my babies, which, after searching and searching, ended up being at a warehouse in Lebanon, TN. I kept my babies pretty well and hidden for 4 weeks, until an inspector found us and brought us to True Rescue. I guess I thought maybe we would hitch a ride out of the warehouse on one of the big semi trucks, and end up in some exotic location, but I guess in hindsight, this was a much safer option. At any rate, it sure has been an adventure! I've been in two different foster homes, and now here we are getting ready for an ADOPTION EVENT! My babies will be making their first appearance at the PetSmart in Mt. Juliet, TN this Saturday from 11-3, along with dozens of other kittens. Meanwhile, True Rescue will be open with hundreds of other cats/kittens this Saturday as well (though you can come any day of the week for adoptions). There will be so many to choose from, so you'll need to do some exploring on your own at the link below, if you want to see all of the adoptable cats/kittens. There are so many of us that need homes, and so many more that need to come into the shelter and foster, so adoptions remain one of the most important elements of this rescue. We will be honored to make your acquaintance in person, so please stop by!

Hello all! We are MAMA SCRUNCHIE & THE HAIR ACCESSORY BABIES! We see all the humans with their hair up during the summer, and thought our theme would be adorable! I was found with my 4 babies, and was brought into a wonderful home, who started working under True Rescue to get us all taken care of and vetted. Now that my babies are 7 weeks old, it's time for them (and me) to find homes. I'm actually on my way to get spayed now, so this home will never know kittens again. We are all residing at True Rescue now, so you can come by any day of the week to meet us from 11-3. We are so happy to finally be ready! The address here is 12110 Lebanon Rd in Mt. Juliet, TN. This is a place where you can actually let your hair down, so come on out!

Good afternoon! We are THE WASHING MACHINE SQUEAKY CLEAN BABIES! Now only 3 of us are siblings, which are GE, LG and Whirpool. Maytag came in right before us, and was believed to have crawled through a dryer vent and into a ladies home. Probably scared her half to death, too! We thought that it was pretty cute she was named Maytag, so we named ourselves after washer/dryer brands as well. We decided to become the brothers that she needed, since she came in all by herself. Us brothers were pulled off of a pretty sketchy property in Smith County, by Smith County Humane, TN, and brought to True Rescue. We felt like we cleaned up pretty well, too! We're all up for adoption now, and we wanted to let everyone know that True Rescue is open for adoptions SEVEN days a week from 11-3. You can come in during that time, fill out an application, then tour the facility and meet the hundreds of us cats/kittens that reside here, including us!! The address is 12110 Lebanon Rd in Mt. Juliet, TN. We will be waiting, and hoping for a chance for a home soon. Thanks for your support!!

Norman was one of our longest-running cats, having come from a hoarding case in Arkansas, where we brought home 30+ cats/kittens. We brought him into our shelter on 11/19/21 and he was adopted out 3/2/25. Norman was one of the biggest heartbeats of our shelter. We all adored him, and even had a 20' inflatable cat created in his likeness, which we use over and over again for every True Rescue event. We thought Norman would just be happy being in our communal shelter forever, because he just continued to get overlooked with adopters. It turns out, Norman wasn't ours to keep. While he considered the shelter "home", it really wasn't his true home, because just look at him now! His face says it all. His family adores him and just gushes about how wonderful he is. Norman is why our rescue is working, and why getting cats off the ground and out of unsafe conditions, and into safe ones, makes a difference. His happy ending is what we know all of our cats/kittens deserve and will find one day. We always ask people not to feel sorry for the ones who have been in our care for so long, because a perfect family is worth the wait. And in the meantime, we are their family. So they wait...and they give and receive so much love, until one day...it's their turn! (written with happy tears)

Good morning! It's me, Scootch! You might not recognize me, since I'm growing up a little, but I wanted to give you an update since my last surgery. To catch everybody up a bit, I was witnessed being thrown from a car at a fast speed over 6 weeks ago, and I was pretty broken up. My humerus and femur on my right side were both completely broken. Dr. Gables with VetMed Animal Health was up to task and performed a delicate surgery using pins to put me back together. I looked like Kitten Frankenstein Monster for a while, and I thought I looked pretty cool. It was a long recovery, but my pins were taken out last week. During the surgery to take my pins out, it was discovered that something was wrong with one of my kidneys, and that one was completely encased in fluid. This is called something I can't pronounce, and now I'm going in for surgery once again this morning to have my kidney removed. I was told that a kitty like me can survive on 1/3 of one kidney, so two whole kidneys aren't even needed! That sounds weird to me, because why have two kidneys at all? What do I know, though, I'm just going with the flow here. So it's off to another surgery today, and just wanted you to remember me in your thoughts if you could. I've been through a lot in my not quite 3 months of life, and I could use a little moral support. Oh...did I mention some of my boy parts were taken away during my last surgery as well? I wasn't aware anything was wrong with those, but apparently they must have gotten hurt in the accident too! At least what's left of me seems to be working fine, and I'll be even better after they remove this pesky kidney. Gotta go...my vet is coming, and I'm gonna go into a nice, deep sleep soon. Have a wonderful day, and I'll update you again soon. Love, Scootch

Good afternoon, I am Ellis, and I finally made it to the show! The main floor, which is called Purr Pawlaza, is a highly sought after space. When one of us gets picked to go to Purr Pawlaza, we call it "going to the show". I was picked!! I've made so many new friends, too. So a little bit about me...I was brought in with my sister by our previous owner, who had personal issues and had to move to MA. The issues were really bad, and True Rescue stepped up to take both of us in house. My sister had babies (no I'm not the daddy), and she is with a foster right now. My sister was a "roamer", if you get what I'm saying. She will announce herself soon.

I really want to meet you, and you will know me right away because I come up to everyone, trying to get them to hold me. I cry, in fact, to be held. You can hold me like a baby, like a monkey, or like whatever you need me to be. YOU NEED ME. Oh, I also must admit that I tested positive for FIV. Don't worry, I'm perfectly safe to comingle with other cats, as it is almost impossible to catch unless through a deep bite wound, and that is extremely rare. It just means I'll have to live an indoor-only life, as we should anyway, and that I stay up-to-date on vaccines and stuff. I'm the most non-aggressive cat you can meet. Please consider me, okay? You can fill out an application for me at the link below, and I fully expect to see some this week. I'm in the show now! Woohoooooo!

This week was National Adoption Week with PetSmart Charities, and as a Gold-Level Shelter Partner, we are ecstatic to report a whopping THIRTY-FOUR ADOPTIONS this week! (commence applause) We are also very excited to announce the adoption of five of our precious mama cats, who, as you know, mean the world to us. This summer has truly been so amazing as families continue to consistently show up to adopt from us, knowing they are freeing up life-saving spaces. We thank you all so much for this, and if you can't tell by the smiles on the feline faces, they are pretty thankful too! We will continue to keep this rescue circle going as long as wonderful people show up to adopt. Hope this puts a big smile on your face today!

(heavy sigh) It's our busiest day of the week, and we came in to find another cat dumped at our front door early this morning. This time there was a note plus $60, so there's that. That $60 could have covered a neuter, vaccines and nail clip at most low-cost spay/neuter clinics, just FYI. So let's see....kept one cat, but can't afford this one, but they don't get along anyway, too much energy, but a little shy and finances are tight...got it.

We do have cameras installed now, but unfortunately couldn't see make or model of any vehicle. We are not going to disclose anything about this person, because they thought they were doing the right thing. Wouldn't do much good anyway, because the police aren't going to use valuable resources to go after someone who dumped a cat "safely" at a rescue. But for everyone else out there that might be considering drastic actions like this....DON'T...DO...THIS! This is not legal, and this is not okay to put on a rescue. We are in the middle of an animal crisis, both dog and cat, and there are animals being dumped outside left and right on the ground as it is.

Most rescues are working off of waiting lists, and every story is a sad one, and it hurts us that we can't help every human on their timeline in their circumstances. However, this crisis was started by humans, and continues to worsen because of lack of city/county shelter resources and lack of the public utilizing low-cost spay/neuter programs. Shelters like ours that are funded strictly through donations are maxed out because we are bearing the brunt of so many counties around us, whose tax dollars are not going towards helping cats, and in many cases, dogs, as well. As always, animal shelters/rescues are at the bottom of any city/county budget, and nonexistent in churches as part of any charitable recipient of donations. We are hearing of shelters closing due to lack of funding, and counties doing away with open intake, especially for cats, and so this will only get worse on those of us still plugging along.

On a much more positive note, however, we LOVE this kitty, and we have already given him deflea medication, deworming medication, nail trim, ear cleaning and our crazy cat lady kisses. He will go on our neuter list for next week, then will be up for adoption. We don't ever get mad at the animals, just the dumpers, because we would have helped come up with a plan that would have been a win/win for all of us, though it would require some patience and willingness to work together. It is without question that True Rescue needs a second location and a working clinic. We have been working on this for years, but the money to do this has to be in place, and being in the middle of an animal crisis makes it very scary to move forward in a new venture, though we will move forward, mark our words. Thank you for your support, and if there are people out there that you know that could help us fund this venture, please send them our way, and we will give them a red carpet tour of our facility and outline of our future plans. This must happen, because the need is too great. Thanks for listening, and for the unwavering support.

So we're just chillin' and admiring our handsome faces in the mirror. We're gonna throw in a sweat sesh here in a minute and pump some iron so we can look more shredded for the event. We really want to stand out, you feel us?

We will be at the PetSmart in Mt. Juliet today from 11-3, along with dozens of other kittens like us, who really need homes. We were taken away from our moms and put into a kennel and dumped on a property in Smith County, TN. Our outcome could have been a lot worse if True Rescue hadn't stepped in to take us. Some people don't take kindly to kittens, and we'll never understand why. We're just 6 really cool dudes who need a home. We'll keep you entertained non-stop, and our male energy is not just that we play all day, but we love the hardest too. We do everything full tilt!

Come on out today and let's have a bromance! You can apply to adopt us at the link below, or fill out the application on site when you get here. Thanks, and let's gooooooo!

Good evening! We are THE WILDCAT BABIES! Rooooaaaaarrrrrr!!!!! Did we scare you? No? Dang, we've been practicing on that. We were driven here all the way from Celina, TN, about an hour and a half away, all because we were found in a "hoarder house", where the owner had died. Now we don't know what a "hoarder" is, but there were a lot of cats like us there!! We were lucky to get out alive! We used to pretend that we were wildcats that could get ourselves out of any predicament, using our scare tactics and long teeth and claws! It was a fun game, until we realized it wasn't a game we were in. The real world was not fun, and we lucked out getting to come to True Rescue, where we have been recuperating in a wonderful foster home (thanks, Katie). We are going to our first ADOPTION EVENT this Saturday (July 26th) at PetSmart in Mt. Juliet, TN. We will be there from 11-3 with lots of other kittens. The True Rescue shelter will be open as always from 11-3 as well, and they will have both cats and kittens there. You just have to come out and adopt. We were just kidding about the wildcat thing...we're not wild, we're just sweet kittens! Thanks for hearing our story, and we can't wait to meet all of you Saturday!

About True Rescue

Thank you for supporting the True Rescue page! Let’s start with why True Rescue was started and what our plans are moving forward. The idea of having a “Regional Emergency Shelter” came about after years of working in natural disaster areas in the South, mostly hurricane-ravaged areas. The need for additional housing for displaced animals or animals currently existing in shelters needing to evacuate was evident and still remains one of the largest ongoing needs. Not only is the housing essential, but transport to the housing as well. There is also a huge need for animal rescues to work together in a more cohesive manner. This is why we are currently in the beginning phase of constructing a 15-20,000 sq. foot animal shelter in Lebanon, TN.

So what happens with the shelter while not in use during disaster? It will never stop running, that’s what! When not in use for disasters, we will be assisting our rescue partners, who are all part of our “True Network” by easing their burden of overcrowded shelters and transportation needs. We will house spay/neuter clinics 3-4 times/year. We will assist law enforcement in our state and surrounding states by housing animals involved in cruelty/hoarding cases. As if that isn’t enough, we will house animals for homeless citizens in and around the Nashville area, as well as being a safe house for pets from domestic abuse situations.

We intend to operate utilizing the highest standard of care for these animals, with full training for our volunteers on all levels of animal care. Also planned for future events is disaster training and emergency animal care training at our facility in Lebanon, TN.

Thank you for your interest in True Rescue, and please follow us to keep up with local rescues and events happening!
