Our dogs experience several different play yards throughout their day with us. Sea views, enrichment, relaxation and AC, important in our summer months. All under control, so we keep all these monkeys safe while rhey have the best day!

Love Your Dog, they love you MORE! ❤️🐾

Want a dog that chews furniture, raids countertops, shreds pillows, steals laundry, rehearses anxiety, and makes terrible decisions the second you leave the room?

Here’s the recipe:

• Give them complete freedom long before they’ve earned it. Responsibility is overrated.
• Treat confinement like cruelty. The goal is maximum access with minimum accountability.
• Allow them to rehearse undesirable behavior daily. Practice doesn’t make perfect—it makes permanent.
• Assume maturity will magically appear with age. Why teach skills when time exists?
• When they make poor decisions, simply clean up the evidence and try again tomorrow.
• Reserve structure only for moments when you’re actively frustrated.

Advanced techniques:

– Leave tempting items everywhere. Self-control develops best through repeated failure.
– Provide freedom based on guilt instead of readiness.
– Mistake access for trustworthiness.
– Ignore small boundary violations until they become expensive.
– View the crate as punishment instead of education.
– Ask for advice, then immediately eliminate the most practical solution.

“Apart from using a crate… what am I doing wrong?”

Usually quite a bit.

Because the crate isn’t the problem.
The crate simply reveals the problem.

A dog that cannot handle freedom responsibly often needs more guidance, not more access.

Freedom is not what teaches responsibility.
Responsibility is what earns freedom.

On a softer note…

A crate is not a jail cell.

It’s a management tool.
A teaching tool.
A safety tool.

It prevents unwanted rehearsals while your dog develops the skills necessary to make better choices later.

Most dogs don’t suffer from too much structure.
They suffer from being given freedoms they haven’t yet learned how to handle.

The goal may not be to crate forever.
The goal is to create a dog that no longer needs it.

Today we say “see you later” to someone who has been so much more than an employee.

For the past 8 years, Erika has been a huge part of Love Your Dog—caring for hundreds of dogs, supporting our team, and helping build the company we are today. She is loved by our staff, our clients, and every dog lucky enough to know her.

I've also had the privilege of watching Erika grow through some of life's biggest milestones—finding love, getting married, and becoming an amazing mom to Bella.

One moment I'll never forget was when I had to say goodbye to my beloved Nala. Just one day after giving birth to Bella, Erika came to be there for me and to say goodbye to Nala too. That act of kindness and loyalty is something I will carry with me forever.

Erika, thank you for 8 years of dedication, friendship, compassion, and love. Saying goodbye is incredibly hard, but thankfully it's only temporary.

In 365 days, Erika will be back in Cayman, and we'll be counting down every one of them.

Safe travels, Erika and Bella. We love you, we'll miss you, and we can't wait to welcome you home. ❤️🐾

Love, Julie, the LYD Team & all our pups
