YPAP is the English branch of the Korean organization Yongin Animal Protection Association. However, the main city shelter YPAP works with is a no-kill shelter.

YPAP is the international English branch of YAPA (Yongin Animal Protection Association). We are a city-affiliated, volunteer-run animal welfare organization working to stop euthanasia & promote the adoption of Gwangju and Yongin city dogs. Most "shelters" in Korea are kill shelters where animals are euthanized within 10 days of being reported. This is possible because of two ladies, "Miyeon and Cl

ara", who started a local adoption support group of over 2,000 members called "Yongin Animal Protection Association". With over 700 dogs between the two city shelters we work with, we need all the help we can get! Now, we are asking you- the international rescue community- to support YPAP and help us find families for the abandoned dogs of Korea. Harris is a 5 year old male Laika mix who was found wandering the streets with his mom, Aria, and came to our shelter in August 2022 🐾 When he first arrived, he was skinny and very shy, but even then, his gentle nature was clear. Since then, he has grown into a handsome boy and slowly become more comfortable with the world around him.

Harris is calmer and more cautious than his mom, often taking his time to quietly observe new people and unfamiliar surroundings before feeling safe 🥹 Once he builds trust, his softer, curious side begins to show. He really enjoys his walks, taking in the fresh air and of course, treats along the way 🍪🐾 He’s very food motivated, already knows how to sit, and will wait politely for snacks, while generally staying calm and unbothered around other dogs.

He is still with Aria and clearly relies on her for comfort and guidance, often following her lead like a true mama’s boy. Because of this, we think he may do well with a doggy sibling in his future home 🐶💛 Harris is a quiet, thoughtful boy who needs a little patience and a gentle environment to truly come out of his shell, and with the right person, we believe he will grow into a loving companion.

Aria is a beautiful female Laika mix who was found wandering the streets with her son, Harris, wearing an old worn collar and a rusty chain. They came to our shelter together in August 2022 🐾

Aria is a gentle, loving soul who adores people. She’s very comfortable with humans, happily greeting volunteers and even saying hello to strangers on walks, which really shows how trusting and kind she is 💛 She’s also easygoing and happy with the simple things like a nice walk, some treats, and just being near her people.

She can get a little excited, especially when there’s attention or snacks involved 😄 and it’s all part of her charm. She’ll follow you around, show off her best smile, and sit sweetly, hoping for a treat. Even with her little bursts of excitement, she settles nicely and stays calm around people and barking dogs, sometimes choosing to lie down and enjoy a quiet brushing or a bit of sunbathing ☀️🐶

Aria is also a quick learner, especially when treats are involved. She’s ready for a forever home where she can finally settle in and share all the love she has to give, and would make a loving and cheerful companion for someone very lucky 🏡💛

Dandy is a medium sized male Jindo mix who came to our shelter as a tiny 3kg puppy. 🐶 We are not sure what he experienced before arriving, but starting life scared and alone was not easy, and he has grown into a shy and sensitive boy. Even after spending much of his life at the shelter, Dandy is still nervous, though we have been lucky enough to watch him slowly blossom over time.

With each walk, he becomes a little braver. He clearly wants to go outside but can feel unsure about being handled at first. Once he is out, however, we can see the tension gently melt away as he spends time outdoors with our volunteers, and he will accept soft pets when approached slowly and kindly. 🥹🐾

Dandy feels most comfortable when his kennel mate is nearby, which is completely understandable. A familiar dog friend gives him reassurance, and we believe he may benefit from having a doggy sibling in his future home to help guide him and show him that the world is safe.

More than anything, Dandy needs stability, patience, and gentle love. 💕 In a calm home with consistency and care, we believe he will continue to grow in confidence and become a gentle, loving boy. Jurie is a handsome mixed breed boy we rescued from the euthanasia list at the Yongin City Pound nearly two years ago. Since then, he has been safe in our care, showing us what a big, doofy sweetheart he truly is. He loves his walks, enjoys pets, and simply wants to be close to his people like any other doggo. 🐾💛

Finding him a forever family has been more challenging due to his larger size and some reactivity around other dogs. Jurie can become overstimulated when many dogs are nearby, so he would do best as the only dog in the home. He bonds deeply with his people and truly thrives when he can devote all his love and attention to his humans. ❤️ In fact, he much prefers quality time playing or cuddling with his people over busy dog parks.

Our volunteers all say the same thing about Jurie. He absolutely adores attention and is the biggest sweetheart. 🥰 After his initial burst of happy energy, he settles nicely and walks well on leash. And really, who can resist that goofy wide smile and those floppy ears? Jurie is also very food motivated and will happily sit for some delicious treats.

He would flourish in an experienced home with someone patient and committed to continuing his training and helping him navigate the world. More than anything, he is ready to be the center of someone’s world, receiving the love, stability, and exercise he needs to truly thrive.

Adele has been waiting at the shelter for over three years. She used to be very timid, but she’s grown much braver and now walks nicely with new volunteers and accepts gentle petting.

She gets excited for meals, loves treats, and we haven’t noticed any food guarding. She also enjoys lying in the warm sun.

Adele needs a little time to adjust, and a calm, patient family to help her feel safe and loved.

Danchu is a happy go lucky 5 year old male Jindo mix who first came to the shelter as a tiny 2kg puppy back in 2020. His full Korean name is “Danchu Kumong,” which means button hole, a name the staff gave him because of his adorable small, round eyes that look just like little holes in a button. 🥹😄

From the very beginning, Danchu has been a friendly and affectionate boy who truly loves people, other dogs, and life in general.🐾. He is a medium energy boy and a total sweetheart who loves being close to people.💕He shows his affection with happy kisses and jumping up for cuddles. He can get a little too bouncy when he’s excited, especially when treats are involved 🍪😄, so he would benefit from some gentle training. His enthusiasm is all part of his charm, and he just can’t help himself when he thinks more snacks might be coming.

Despite spending his whole life at the shelter, Danchu has stayed friendly, optimistic, and full of love 💛🐕. He’s more than ready for a forever home, and with enough exercise, playtime, and affection, he would fit well into a family with older children. When Will first arrived at the shelter, he had painful skin issues and wounds around his neck. Thanks to the shelter staff’s daily medical care disinfecting and regular bandage changes, Will has healed completely and is now looking as fluffy as ever! 🐾✨

Will looks just like a teddy bear with his big, round head and perfectly fluffy, curled tail. 🧸 He’s a quiet boy who doesn’t fuss much over people or other dogs. Food, however, is a different story. 😅 Treats truly catch his attention, and whenever he sees or hears the rustle of a snack bag, he’ll patiently sit, tail wagging, waiting quietly with the most hopeful gaze. 🥹💛

Recovering from his skin issues wasn’t easy. Will can be a little sensitive and does best with calm, pressure-free interactions. It took some time for him to feel comfortable coming out for walks with volunteers, and he prefers touch to be slow and gentle. While he isn’t overly affectionate, he now really enjoys his walks and every chance to earn some yummy treatos. He’s the kind of dog who builds trust quietly, little by little. 🐾

Will would do best with someone who appreciates a calm dog and can offer him a steady home where he can feel safe being exactly who he is.

Everyone, meet Luther!

Luther is a 10kg male black Jindo mix and a very shy, nervous boy. Because he is a black dog, Luther has often been overlooked, but he is a good-hearted boy with the personality to be a quiet companion🖤.

He was found alone on the side of the street and brought to our shelter without a microchip 😔. Luther has spent most of his time leaning on his kennel mate, Ron, for comfort, and the two of them rely on each other a lot.

Luther is very cautious and timid, especially around new people and unfamiliar places. But with slow, gentle introductions, Luther slowly opens up. Walks and sudden noises can still scare him, but after a good walk, he relaxes, lets you pet him, and prefers a gentle, slow approach to touch 💛. He has the most beautiful shiny black coat with a little white stripe on his chest. Even though his eyes often show fear 😢, sometimes they sparkle in the light ✨, and his kind, gentle nature really shines through when he feels safe.

Because of his shyness, Luther needs a calm and patient family who can give him time, space, and love to feel secure 🏡💕. He hasn’t had the easiest start in life 😔, but with the right home, he has the potential to be a loyal, loving companion and someone’s devoted best friend.

Our Story

YPAP is not a rescue group and is not a registered non-profit organization. We are simply a group of volunteers promoting the adoption of dogs in need. We don’t have a shelter!!!

Yongin Pound is located in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Yongin Pound has an average of 7 abandoned animals checked into the pound everyday! The pound faces a constant uphill battle due to a fundamental problem in Korea: the supply of dogs exceeds demand. The pound cannot refuse any dog that is sent there by the city or by citizens, and as a result Yongin Pound suffers from overpopulation. Now we are asking you- the international rescue community- to join Yongin to support and help find families for the abandoned pets of Korea.
